    for me anyways,

    for my setup (1080 75fps) a solid choice - evga 780sc
but 6 gb versions are arriving so may be worth waiting...

apart from the fact whenever I look through 780s I end up in the 780 ti section.
but gtx 880s may not be too far off so may be worth waiting...

did I mention i'm happy with hd4000 video playback?, I even monitor it through AB.

probably end up with 780sc anyways, hopefully the process wont take too long. ..rather a 780 ti though :zap:

not anything uber game wise till end of next month, this break i'm taking now was something I wanted anyways.
I just don't want to shell out for 780ti and following month arrives 880, you know that feeling?

I totally believe you dude however,
one more thing: if I go for a high end card I gotta make a small sacrifice,
so if I gotta make that certain sacrifice I at least want it to be for something ultra uber.
though I guess 780 is the most uber compared to my integrated. :D
cpu is holding up fine though at least.
so yeah, gotta be worth it is all. no biggie. I miss the games for sure.
being setup in time for daylight would be good.

I wouldn't buy anything less than 4gb of vram, don't care how powerful it is. I would regret it in the short term and the long run.

Man honestly we don't know when Maxwell or Pirate islands is coming, 20nm yields are low and as far as i know Nvidia is lined up with TSMC where as AMD signed with Globo. Either way there is a lot of speculation that we end up with 28nm maxwell, even then it's likely to be another GK104 type release, with mid range launching first and the big chip later on.

I guess Vram is becoming well used now a days but for 1080p i think 3Gb is pretty adequate honestly. A 6Gb 780 is going to cost a pretty penny, likely around 600+.

I'm eyeballing a 780 classy and if you want to stick green i think it's the card to get. Grab one OC the hell out of it and sit back and enjoy.

The other option is there is the 290 Tri-X and Vapor X for about 60$ less with similar/better performance and 4Gb of Vram.

Ultimately i don't think you'll end up regretting grabbing a 780/290 right now, quite frankly they should still be very powerful cards even if Maxwell arrives Q4 14 or Q1 15.

Didn't the new drivers address VRAM usage?

    Depends on 3 important factors....

1.Price has to be under £1000, this is already a ridiculous price, any higher than this is totally unacceptable for me.

2.The 790 must have clocks similar to the way the 690 was (slightly downclocked). If it has clocks like the 590 (severely downclocked) then its a massive fail.

3.It must have 4GB of ram per gpu or forget it, if Nvidia release the 790 with anyless than they wont have learnt anything from the 690's only weakpoint.

If the 790 meets the criteria above ill be seriously interested as sli will be wortyh it further down the road as Vram wont be a problem.

Saying that the 690 i have now runs anything maxxed out literally and there isnt anything that i play that runs at 100 fps 24/7 at 1267mhz fully stable which is a good oc for a 690 even though its on water.

    So the question is...
Do i need to upgrade? No
Do i want to upgrade? Yes
Can i be bothered to reinstall my loop and other hardware components? Hell NO!
    :)

The 3g 780 is a swell card and can handle any game on 1080p so why spend the other 150+usd?
And if you can hold out do it wait till new cards come out

Does anyone have a clue when we might get 4gb or 6gb 780ti?

I wouldn't worry about hitting 3gb VRAM at 1080p. Chances are you would have already upgraded or we'll be taking advantage of tiled resources imo.

    Agreed.

I thought that it was difficult to do anything other than 6GB and I can't see the standard 780 having more RAM than the 780Ti.

It's going to be very interesting to see how they shoehorn it in under the Titan Black, maybe they wont release a 780Ti 6GB, who knows? Apart from the gaming bit, sometimes I think it's never a good time to buy an Nvidia GPU :)

    .
Make do with a 750ti until the 880 arrives and use it as a physx card after that.
