Picking up a Crosshair V Formula Z board tomorrow. I will be upgrading from my M5a99fx pro 2.0. Seeing as these boards are both running 990fx chipsets should I format I should I be ok running as is?

    OS Windows 8.1 x64

    Thanks in advance!!

You can getaway without format i.e. reinstalling Win 8.1 x64.

Both boards are using same chipset/southbridge = AMD990FF/SB950 ...and same additional SATA3 controller ASMedia ASM1061. Just to be sure everything is in place after Win8 boots for the first time with CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z reinstall AMD chipset drivers and ASMedia ASM1061 drivers.

    Other differences between motherboards:

    M5A99FX PRO R2.0
    Realtek 8111F 1Gbps LAN
    Realtek ALC892

    CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z
    Intel 1Gbps LAN
    Realtek ALC889

Just remove Realtek LAN divers, install Intel LAN drivers and reinstall Realtek HD Audio driver and you're good to go.
