    Hi there

So I bought a 980ti to upghrade from my r9 280x crossfire. So far in bf4 I can clearly see it's better. it runs smoother on a clock of 1450mhz. Now I tested a bit of GTA5 that can almost max my card out. First off my temps is around 78C max when playing GTA5.

I have this one issue. first off my stock boost clock is 1357mhz with a stock volts of on the boost. In gpu-z I can already see that my perfcapreason is already VRel. Now to my understanding is that I have to increase the voltage to get higher stock boost clock out of it and that's what I experiencing. i increase voltage and get higher stock boost out of it. So looks like I have one of the worst 980 ti out there. How can galax sell me a card that's already voltage limited. I thought the 980 ti hof is made for overclocking with premium components and they will find above average chips.

    My asic is 65%

JayTwoCents have a review of 980 hof, oh boy its bad. Probably one of the worst. I dont think they've put more effort into 980ti so it most likely have same problems : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ApzmHG5ol0

You should try oc on stock voltage first, my cards are capable of 1472 stock volts, boost is 1349 out the box, I would not go by gpuz, stress test in heaven and valley, futurmark, and gaming are your best bet in finding your stable oc.

Ignore what ever nonsense you read about vrel. Keep voltage at stock and mess with the core

I can get better boost voltage by just increasing the volts. Sorry I just came from AMD so I'm totally a noob at this. I did read up guides but I'm still unsure about how I should overclock it.

Oh just another question. Can the voltage increase I'm giving it actually be the reason for making it unstable?

I'm aiming for at least 1450mhz but don't want the 1357mhz. I know it's already a nice boost over marketed boost. I now know for sure why you go for a bigger brand like MSI, EVGA, ASUS. They all top brand and have a bigger team to design a capable graphics card. my previous cards was club3d. Also a cheap brand and I couldn't overclock it. I'm a sucker for cheaper graphics cards but I get what I pay for.

try 1455 stock volts like I said before, you need to find your limit on stock voltage or you may be giving it more than you need. +250 is a good starting point for vram.

why don't you grab a bios that disables clock and voltage changes during load?

that alone will bring more stability than anything else you might do with the stock bios.

Can you explain what you just said? I was playing GTAV and was seeing some artifacting. Maybe it's my vrm running to hot.

Ok I sort of understand what I must try. If someone can mod me 2 bioses with one allowing 1.175V constant under load and one with 1.2V under load so I can test and see if I can get my boost constant then. Maybe make another 2 with max speed of 425MHz on the boost. as far as afterburner goes I can do 425mhz on stock volts (1.175V) but it fluctuates. The boost sometimes go as low as +-1180mhz and I don't know why. I can then see my bf4 fps goes lower for like half a second. Normally when I die then when I die or respawn but sometimes when I play aswell. I just want my card to boost properly.

    thanks

What resolution are you playing at? What are the max temps you see? What is your power target at. What do you mean 425mhz on stock voltage? If you are hitting your power target you can increase that by modding your own bios, what is your temp limit set at?

Playing on 2560x1440, power target on 120, max boost on stock voltage is 425mhz with my current settings, temp limit on 91C but max on core is 65-74C

What is 425mhz? Do you mean an offset on the gpu in MSI AB?

My max boost clock in games. for example in bf4 my boost is 425 but drops from time to time. so I want my card to maintain that boost for as long as I play games. Any other reason why my boost will drop?

Galax is not a small company....nor are they a "cheap brand". It is obvious at this point that you have no idea what you're doing....

I know you might be right but can someone please assist me in going in the right direction. I really want to get the best experience with this. So what can you guys suggest I do with my overclocking. Like I said I hate it when my core clock dips below 1425mhz or at least 1400mhz cause that effects my FPS a bit.

    OMW sorry I meant 1425mhz :)

Let me see a screen grab of MSI AB.
