Question GTX 660 SLI vs. single GTX 670 - 09-14-2012, 16:47 | posts: 1,039

It looks like the GTX 660 SLI is a better choice, but does SLI still have a lot issues like it used to be? I've never had SLI configured but I've heard issues with some games may not work properly. Or only one works sometime.

If you enjoy tweaking, and desire the best of the best performance - SLI. If you like great performance out of most your games out the box, without any hassle, go with the fastest single GPU you can afford.

I"ve got two 660s and I've had no problems with sli. Trying to get past 2000 points on Heaven @1080p, the highest I get is 1998. Pretty good though.

i would go with single 670, it's very powerful.

wont have to deal with potential SLI issues, wont have to deal with game developers and sli scaling, and sli profiles.

can grab another 670 down the line (as it gets cheaper) to sli too.

It looks to be hit or miss with the 660's. I just tried to SLi two MSI GTX660 Ti PE's recently, and ran into all kinds of issues with my MoBo at left, not detecting the cards when both installed or when only one installed. When I did finally get them to work, they wouldn't show up after shutting down. Had to reboot, it would find one, rebooted again, it would find both, but I would have to enable SLI in control panel again every time. Finally said forget it, sent them back, and kept the 670.

Ran each card in a P55 board, and they worked fine. Reinstalled my GTX670 worked with no issues. Before I had the GTX670, I was running two GTX580 MSI lightning's in Sli with no problems, and now wish I would have kept them.

P.S. Yes, I did clean driver installs, different drivers, different Sli bridges, and MoBo Bios, etc.

You cannot Sli those two cards. Both cards have to be the same model, but can be different brands.

No, as they are not the same GPU.

I've had no issues with my 660ti's in SLI. Like some have said, a single card has less issues. This is why there's an option to turn of SLI and use a single card. Or you can turn of SLI and use the second card as a dedicated Physx card. That's a WIN/WIN in my experience.

Holy crap I've never seen so many issues with SLI. I've had 3 SLI setups the first being the original 6600GT, the next 8800GTX, and the single SLI card 295GTX. I've never had an issue with either one. I loved the versatility of them too. In this case the 660's will blow the 670 clear out of the water.

as someone who has had a 680 since release I can honestly say it's pretty much overkill for almost every game at 1080p so unless your gaming beyond 1080p I wouldn't even waste the money on 2 660s. Quite frankly your probably much more better off just buying one 7950.
