http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/318045/EU-plot-to-scrap-Britain I found this link on another forum. I don't know much about the source, but if it's reputable....Yikes. This has conspiracy theory written all over it, but then again, so does the Euro. Any thoughts?
LOL The article was nothing but hilarious. The site seems to be of some anti-EU nature for starters. The president of the council of Europe is a largely ceremonial post, fusing the European commission post with the president would not change many things. Why? because everybody knows the president of the commission is more important than the president of the council. The whole idea that fusing the two posts would create a European emperor is retarded. The real decision making is done at a council of ministers level or at the ECOFIN meetings (first is when the prime ministers meet and make laws second is the economic meetings between members of the economy ministers). I am not saying the commission has no power. The commission has the power to propose EU wide laws, the EU parliament can amend and propose its own legislation while at the end the Council of ministers decides. The Euro has no conspiracy behind it. Britain has been nothing but a baby lately. Its conservative government decided not to part-take in the formation of the fiscal compact treaty so it wouldn't piss off the bankers in London. With that stupid decision Britain gave the French and the Germans control of economic policy and risks becoming isolated from its main trading partner. Thank god Britain decision to wash its hands clean has not been as bad as I thought it would be. With socialist candidate Hollande probably taking the French presidency, with Italy having regained respect and having a strong prime minister in Mario Monti and with the Spanish prime minister all talking about stimulating growth over austerity. I think that eventually European economic policy will shift from fiscal consolidation only towards a mix of fiscal consolidation (secured with the fiscal compact Britain did not sign) and development (some form of debt mutualization or Euro-bonds for investments). I am very curious to think what distorted view you have of Europe to say that the euro has some form of conspiracy theory behind it. As you might have noticed I support the European Union entirely and while I often do not agree with many decisions taken I believe it is in the interest of all European citizens (even if right now all they see is the negatives) that there be more Europe.
lol, wrong way round. Even Pro Europe Mandelson said we need to have a referendum on it. My biggest hope is that we get out asap. Even countries in the EU get blacklisted for not towing the line so I cant see how its good to be under that kind of control. I used to be pro Europe until I saw that they use muppets to run it that cant even control themselves, let alone a block of countries!! Better out than in.
For my pro Europe friends http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSntPN9DUxU, I'm not sure if it's allowed to link videos here, so sorry if it's not. Ignore subtitles, it is on English . IS UK in EU? This video is from 2011, there was referendum no?
There has been no referendum on Britain's membership in the EU, but let me tell you, if there was, we'd be out of there.
They come up with every excuse not to give us a referendum as they know there will be an overwhelmingly anti eu vote.
Thanks for answer, that means UK is in EU (as organisation). Well, i would like also to have right to vote, since ehm... changes in 2000. we have been lost that right also. Hope that will change soon for all of us.
eh no ****, UK is the only place where i can buy videogames at a decent price, dont **** it up ><, that's the only usefull thing i ever got from EU, since every money spain got was wasted (and stolen) by our politics... Idk in other EU countries, but in spain games are 60€ @@, i bet spanish people who buys UK games is a good quantity xP (their are 35-38€ there and free shipping from many of their big shops).
The title of the article is deliberately misleading and provocative. The EU has been a great success as well as a dismal failure. The basic tenants on which it was founded such as the free movement of goods and people, harmonisation of trade and tough anti competition rules created wealth and trade. The Euro was doomed to fail from the outset. Without robust fiscal rules concerning its use by member states there was always the chance that the richer countries would end up subsidising the poorer ones.
I can't believe how short sighted people here are. Britain is economically dependant on the EU; as continental Europe is the UK's largest trading partner. Stepping out of the EU would be economically catastrophic for the UK unless they get some deal keeping access to the common market. I found this article on the economist about a lecture by lord Mandelson linked http://www.economist.com/blogs/bagehot/2012/05/britain-and-eu I found this part to be interesting All I can say to the British is do as you like no one is forcing you kicking and screaming but I find the attitude ****ty. ****ty as you guys want all the goodies attached with membership (free trade, access to markets) but do not want to give up some control necessary to make the currency work. So I hope you guys have the referendum sometime so maybe the rest of Europe can move along. Black ice Spain. Did you forget the years 1986-2008 of economic development? Spain was actually becoming relevant as an EU power, heck you were actually moving FAST and nearing Italy in terms of purchasing power. If it wasn't for the EU you would still be in your early post Franco days. To the person which said that there was no referendum on the EU vote please check your countries history. In 1975 the public was consulted on weather not the UK should remain part of the ECC (the organisation which became the EU). This is typical populism bs which I hate; when the going is good everyone is high fiving and when it gets tough the blame game starts.
New president of France (old president named SARKOZY) will invoke border checks, basically destroying the whole Schengen act, then all members will drop Schengen, then soon enough all will drop Euro and probably the whole EU concept... nice i just opened an investment fund in EUROS! F my life
Most people in Britain are eurosceptic without actually understanding either the basic concept of the EU or the massive benefits of membership. I fear that this one area where most people would side with the Tories, despite the fact that everything they touch turns to rat sh1t! I think that it remains impossible for the EU to be completely harmonised across all the frontiers! The EU is of massive benefit to the people of this country I just wish one of the parties could strike up a narrative that means something to everyone. The argument that 'Europe's bad m'kay' appears to work well for the under read!
Really. I tried looking about it and didn't find anything. I know Sarkozy wanted to change the schengen regulations but not hollande. I want Britain to remain in the EU and actually participate in it; that's why I think the current British administration is doing all the wrong moves and handing the balance of power to the Germans. Germans which do not want to implement any sort of debt mutualization or investment mechanism such as European denominated project bonds.
