Yeah hope price will go down soon. We just need a 670 and a mid range (oups did i say that?) 660 now and the price war can begin. Right now we have previous generation +10%-20% for the same price as we had last year. Whoohooo ... i mean eh! Those 7950 and 7870oced price need to go down so i can buy a 580 perf level card for 300$ CAD XD.
I will not touch this card unless it falls to $300. If it doesnt, I'll wait till next years maxwell. Tired of upgrading GPUs on a yearly basis.
Simple, they didn't have to because they saw it was faster that the other sides high end in most games. Why release your midrange card as midrange when you can just hold off on the high end card and call the midrange one high end. They're after money and as much as i hate the fact they're doing it, it's very good business sence. Edit. Now i'm just waiting for Scan to do what they did with the GTX480 after the GTX580 came out, sell them for under £200 (my 480 cost £185 new ). PS. Hilbert, what's the mounting like on the card?, does it look likely to support coolers that fit the 480/580 mountings (i really love my Shaman cooler).
Yeah, compute performance seems not as good, as if it was positioned for a midrange card compute performance, and high end range graphics performance. also, me like
Probably what i'm gonna do. I'll wait for current high end products that are not high end but priced as high end but are in fact mid range because the high end is not mid range for the price of high end and the naming scheme of mid range to go down in price and reach the 300$ level. I would like better perf in BF 3 at 1980 but well looks like i'll need to wait 2013. The 7850 perf is about the same as my current card for the same price i paid a while ago. The 7870oced and 7950 are way too expensive for what they bring. And looking at the 680 the same should be true for the upcoming 670 and 660. Anyway BF3 is the only game i play giving a hard time to my 6950 so i can live with that.
This is exactly the kind of performance I was first expecting from the 7970's... Im in love! I think im gonna sell my 6970's and go for this!
great and thorough review as always, looks great but i think i'll be waiting for a 110 before i really mess around with retooling the system. plus i have to wait a while for the water-cooling kits, etc come out. Thanks for putting in the time. one minor comment regarding the graphs that the color, and placement between the 7970 and the 680 was not consistent throughout, but that's just my inner perfectionist coming out. (pgs 16/18 have the 7970 as the lighter blue instead of the 680.)
Doesn’t really matter what it was supposed to be when they started, things clearly improved, as there is no way Nvidia would have sold a card with this sort of performance for $300. Maybe efficiency is a priority to Nvidia right now, so are waiting until they can get GK110 to match GK104, or maybe they just want to be able to release a $500 and $700 GPU in the same year. It’s obvious they could of done better if they wanted and by the looks of it so could AMD, but with the way things are with 28nm right now I don’t think there would be any stock if they did. Looking forward to the SLI reviews for these though.
True, but the nature of the GPU business is that todays 'high-end' performance is usually available within 12 months at $300. If cards were released every 3 years, I would have no probs dropping $600 on a card today.
Not here, still appears to be lots of stock. Bad time of the month though, will see how much there is at the beginning of March.
I was impressed with the memory increases and the power consumption but I just paid off my Credit card from my 570 purchase... no way could I make this jump as the price range is around $500 and that is not even Super Clocked like my 570 was...nope.
As Darren mentioned somewhere those in the UK looking to buy should take a look at Dabs and use promo code spring25, should come to about £415 + p&p
Aria has one for £399.99 as well. Stock gone on Newegg already, where else in the US do people buy hardware?
