I recently purchased a Gigabyte G1 970 and overclocked it using (Afterburner) Guru3d's tests results. I was curious what kind of results everyone else has tweaked their Cards to. Be it another G1 or MSI Asus! Id love to hear back on some feed back on what people have been able to get while being completely sustainable. Thanks!

1500~1450 should be doable easily and 7600~8000 on the memory.

    What are your results?

Ive pushed mine as far as 1530/8000. Havent tried recently, but for everyday I will keep around 1450/7750 or so. With 2 970 they don't really need any oc atm. Even G1 stock Boost at 1380 is plenty

+135 Core +300mem (added voltage and power limit) is maximum for me, some where between 1480-1520mhz. Will get crashed and texture error if i try to get higher. WHY:(

other people can get 1550mhz or even 1600mhz

For stable gameplay +120core/300mem. +135 causes game crash for Warthunder but not on BF4

Wait for custom bioses which allow higher power limits. Many current 970s can goto 1600 easily.

I went as followed as the Review suggested. I do bottle neck cause I have a rather older CPU

    Temp Target 80 Degrees C
    CPU clock +150 MHz
    Power limiter 112%
    Mem clock +500 MHz
    Volatge + 87Mv
    FAN RPM default

Playing World of Warcraft in DSR mode with everything MAXED out has resulted in anywhere from 70%-100% use in the GPU.

I tried pushing it further but I started to see Green Artifacts on my monitor so I immediately put the settings back to the overclock settings Guru3d's review of the G1 put up.

1500/7900 stock voltage , stable in everything so far.

Not tried higher yet so will try to find out what the limits are when I get a chance

I've managed 1540/7600 single GPU with +25mV but it doesn't feel like I've pushed my cards to the limit.

Update I believe I solved it

Not sure if I could push it further but I will wait till I upgrade my current CPU/Motherboard

New member here so cannot post links.

    Overclocked mine in MSI AB

    Core Clock +230
    Memory Clock + 150

    Got 9607 in Firestrike score

    Is it ok?

did you at least up the voltage a little?
link below states that the reference card for the GTX 970 is

    Core Clock: 1050 MHz
    Memory Clock: 7000 MHz

so adding any overclock should be ok, if it has more than 1 six plug/ 8 plug for power.

I'll get a evga 970 sc tomorrow and since I always do some overclock, what is the safe max voltage for general 970?

My last card was a gtx670 ref and I didn't rise the voltage and was able to do a 122/+100/+250

I couldn't dare to go any further with modest overclocks.

Guys , make sure you post your in game boost clocks, not just offset or we don't really know what offset equals in game .
Which is the important part :)

My Core speed stays at a constant 1552Mhz in AB graph without any dips during Gaming and all benchmarks like 3D Mark Vantage, 3DMark11, 3DMark13, Heaven 4, Metro 2033, Metro LL, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Crysis and Hard Reset.

All of these games and Benchmarks are run without V-sync at 1920 x 1200 with everything maxed out including AA (where applicable)

Power % runs typically between 95 and 105% but quite a bit lower in less demanding games like TR. Max temps typically below 60C with the max I've seen at 65C.

@EdKiefer May I ask which case you use as I saw in the Backplate thread that you measured your VR temps at about 70C on your MSI 970 ?
Did you also measure the Mem chips temps ?

The reason I ask is that I am a bit concerned about VRM and Memory chip temps. I have a HAF-X case which has a big 200mm fan blowing over the graphics card which should hopefully keep VRM and Mem reasonably cool. When initially fitting my card I had the side panel off to check fan operation and the Mem chips felt fairly hot to the touch at 8002Mhz without the sidepanel/fan.

I was actually thinking of fitting some BCC9 copper heatsinks which I have left over (from when I did this to my previous GTX580) to the 4 memory chips on the back of the card. However I do not know if there is much point unless I also take the cooler off to make a plan for the mem chip which has no heatsink, like maybe a flat plate as shown in the other GTX 970 thread. But it looks from the pictures that the opposite Mem chip is also only half covered by the heatsink.

    Any comments and inputs welcome.

The power limit is enough for 24/7 overclocks even with maxed voltage, you don't need a custom bios for that. If you go on water or extreme cooling, then start thinking about modding the bios.
