Thinking about ordering the 1TB version. At the price listed, it's kind of hard not to. Anyone with an M500 care to share their experiences?

    Thanks.

Should be a decent drive, ive got the M500 960gb, havn't had any probs at all with it, and speeds decent.

Certainly looks to be a better bargain than the 1TB EVO due to using MLC Nand not TLC! Cheapest I found online here in the UK is £317 + free 7 day delivery, anyone found it cheaper?

I was looking at the 840 EVO a few weeks ago, as was only £319 (£360+ now), but when i read about the slow read problem, and having to wait for the fix to come out, i just decided to grab the 550, as its price had dropped to £329 from £343, and now ive just grabbed another while they are still the same.

Get them with free next day delivery as well, so can't argue with that. :)

    EDIT:

Just seen Novatech have got the 840 EVO (basic - just the drive), for just under £310.

Just ordered mine, £317 and free delivery. Somehow those 850 Pro's don't look as appealing now :)

Another comparison is, if both the M550 and 850 Pro can read at 550MB/s then your paying roughly a £150 premium for the 850 Pro to get a +20MB/s write speed over the M550's 500MB/s! Seeing as we generally read more data than we write, that +20MB/s just doesn't justify that premium!

I'm not surprised to see Cruicial once again offering a good SSD. The price difference here is about 20-25€, so I guess it remains a rather small premium on the Samsung, and more of a choice of personal taste, in Austria at least. :)

Just a quick price difference in the UK between the 1TB M550 and 850 Pro for various online stores that have both in stock:

    £148 on CCL
    £140 on ebuyer
    £140 on Novatech
    £130 on Scan
    £126 on Amazon

@fantaskarsef: That's not a $20-$25 difference is it? I assume your price difference is for the 1TB versions?

So what is the difference between the

M550 and the MX100 (this one)

The M550 is pretty steep even considering both drives have pretty much the same read/write speeds yet the MX100 is £154.99 for the 512GB version. So for just over £308 you can get two MX100 drives and put them in RAID0 for 1TB of SSD storage space.

What is the difference between the M5xx series and MX100 series... is it that they use difference NAND flash or controllers? I see the MX100 series using Crucials own controller yet the M5xx series uses a Marvell one?

    EDIT:

Nope both seem to use the same Marvel controller

Yes I did a quick check for Austria for the 1TB version, as everybody seemed to talk about it.

So what are the prices for each drive in Austria?

@CPC_RedDawn: Don't think they do a 1TB, other than that probably the convenience of having only 1 drive rather than using 2 SATA ports!

Was going to transfer my Steam over to it, but just decided to leave it where it is instead, and send whatever new i buy to it, by adding a new Steam Library Folder to it.

Well the cheapest offer for the Cruicial M550 1TB is € 375,13 (Amazon 382,54), and the Samsung 840 Evo 1TB sells at € 351,92 (Amazon 351,93). So that's what I meant by 25€ difference, or about 30 if you go with Amazon only.

Thanks, I thought you were comparing the 850 Pro not the EVO, now your post makes more sense to me regards pricing.

The price of that M550 I ordered has now gone up from £317 to £345, my order has been authorised so I'd better get it at £317!!

Well, after still not receiving my M550 I emailed them to ask where it was and surprise, surprise they was going to ship it today but when they went to pick it they had no stock! Some BS about booking in too many and over selling. What? so they don't barcode scan deliveries to update stock then? Some crappy stock control system/people they must have if they can't even book in deliveries correctly.

Needless to say sent them a snotty email about not being notified and have cancelled the order!!
