    Hello community,
I will be receiving a new 1070 SC2 iCX by Saturday or next Monday. I already used DDU to remove old nVidia drivers before I shipped the old card back to eVGA. I wanted to know if there is a preferred driver for the 1070 that is stable for gaming, yet maintains overclockablility. I don't really benchmark anymore, so stability is more important. There have been so many driver releases, followed by hotfixes a few days later, I don't know where to start. Someone recommended 368.69, I've used 373.06 and 378.57, 378.72 has issues with Google Chrome and Youtube. So yeah, very frustrating. I only play Star Wars Battlefront, The Witcher 3 and Batman:AK, so an older driver is ok, as long as it's stable. I've been here for almost 20 years, so I trust your experiences/opinions/advice more than some random Google search. Thank you in advance.

thanks. I know 373.06 and 378.57 work fine. Just wondering if it's worth upgrading to the latest.

Here's a hint: the driver with a highest number in it's version is always the best, unless proven otherwise by you personally on your machine and your workloads. Stop listening to "advice" and reading Google on this, install the driver and check it out. Worst thing which can happen is you'll have to install another one.

    And you're on a 1080....op is asking about 1070.
378.77 gives me drops in rise of the tomb raider and I'm on a 1070. Best solid driver for me is 378.49. The sniper elite driver wasn't bad either but I noticed slightly less fps (1-2) on my benchmarks and didn't see any reason to keep them over the others. Sniper elite also works perfect with 378.49.

Always use the latest and since the cards are still on the release branch line included in the latest feature set , since the 1080ti just recently debut. Me the branch line is still being tweaked for 10-series

the best answer is the "next driver" will be the best.

You might be right on that. Nvidia is supposed to release a magic driver on next release that boosts dx12 performance by 16%. Can't wait.

Are you kidding? Or serious? 1-2 fps is a difference for you?
Both 1070 and 1080 are Pascal cards with identical structure and design. So what works well for one works for the other. I know that maybe 1 in million chances there might be a driver that's good for 1080 is abysmal for 1070 but there's no valid reason to think that this should be the case always.
PS: 378.77 gave me the best benchmarks in firestike and Unigin

I'm not sure what to make of this...since you didn't post what your score was on previous drivers. I realize that they are both the same architecture but nonetheless, there is always a possibility that drivers would work differently for different hardware and you're not even on a 1070. To clear up the confusion, I said 378.66 (sniper elite drivers) gave me 1-2fps less and I said that was not bad(just I saw no reason to use them because they gave me no benefit over the previous). 378.77 gave me weird drops to almost the 40s on dx12 rise of the tomb raider...other drivers were perfectly fine at 60 in the same scenario. Your results may vary.

yeah 378.77 > 378.66 for my GTX 1070. hence, always ensure use the latest one expect NV bring it down.

You boys need to stop playing benchmarks and start playing actual games.
