    Hey guys,
So today I made a fool of myself and accidentally broke a small transistor/capacitor on the back of my gtx 680 while changing the thermal paste...

    See the part here:
    http://www.tbdesign.co.il/gpu.jpg

My screwdriver slipped and took the little guy right off...
After staring at the card with my jaw open for a few minutes I've decided to finish the job and see if it's not catching fire when I turn it on:infinity:

I booted the card and it works just fine (temps are much better too).
Played some battlefield and ran a few benchmarks to be sure it's stable.

The real question is what side effects the missing part will cause over time?
Does anyone know what the specific part actually does?
Should I try to solder it back on?
    It's tiny:bang:

    Wow, you got lucky.
Monitor temps and voltages like a hawk.

You arent going to be able to repair it and are likely to cause real harm if you try.

    crazy

its crazy that this card is still working. usually those parts are very sensitive on any damage. Maybe you missed one which is not used anymore? ;)

Yea, I'm totally paranoid right now,
    monitoring it like crazy...

I guess I got quite lucky:)
I hope that my luck won't run out soon though.:wanker:

This blows, first time in ages I actually broke an electronic part.
oh well, lesson learnt... Heavy screwdrivers are evil.

Hover a finger over components on the back sensing for abnormal localised heat.
Your lips are very good at sensing heat, but you might find it hard getting your face inside yer PC.

to be on the safe side, put a brand new 9v battery on your tongue until fully discharged as to eliminate static electricity

LOL, I turned my pc off and hovered my finger over the gpu back,
I didn't sense any higher temps and was too afraid to touch it because of static.

Will it turn into a gtx Titan if I'll kiss it?

Nope, but it might become a princess.
Look for a new port hole.

So what do you guys say?
Accept it and use it while it works?

    I don't have many options...
I think I'll just see where my luck gets me to.
I'm not planning on upgrading until Maxwell, So let's hope it lasts that long.

I can always tell my wife "I wanna get two 780's" and get thrown off the balcony.:)

Just take it to some electronics repair shop and have them solder it back on.
