As per title, was considering Ryzen and 6800k but in the end decided to go with the 7700k because honestly all I do is gaming.

The 7700k comes with a 5ghz guarantee and delid from OcUK so gaming should be good. Looking forward to having fast ram too, about time.

Should be here tomorrow but won't have time to build it till Tuesday next week. I'll keep you guys updated.

Sounds like a nice setup. If you want best performance for gaming then its a no-brainer. Best CPU for that.

Lovely already having a delid and 5ghz guaranteed.

    Jealous.

I may even follow suit soon !!!!

Yeah, they guarantee 5ghz minimum on that cpu, if it doesn't reach that, I can return it. They say it can even go higher, possibly but 5ghz is a guarantee (as long as you have the right board, ram etc).

The delid is nice, I would be nervous about doing it myself and it would cost me around £30 for the delid tool so while I paid extra for the cpu, it's not that bad.

Look forward to seeing how it all goes and your thoughts after the build !!

Are you not tempted by a nice M.2 NVMe SSD to go with it ;) ?

I'm going to delid my 4770k this week and see how much further i can squeeze it once that's done before I pull the trigger on a 7700k rig.
    At the minute I'm on 4.6ghz with 1.232v http://valid.x86.fr/rf7jaq
looks like I should be good for at least 4.8ghz but hopefully even more at 1.25v

Still the 7700k even at stock I suspect would be alot faster..........

I was thinking about m.2 but I think I'll just add one later on this year. Good luck with your delid, keep us posted!

You can push for 5.1GHz If your chip Is delidded temps would be great. I'm cooling mine with a H100i, and temps are around 60c when gaming and 70c when stress testing.

My average chip can do 5.1GHz Core and 4.8GHz Cache with 1.380v LLC 5 Adaptive In Bios.
    Passed 8 hours of Realbench.
Going over 1.4v for 24/7 Is a bit risky so that's where I stopped.

Nah, I'll stick with 5ghz, I have an OCD for round numbers.

The parts will be delivered tomorrow and I will actually have time on Friday evening to put it all together, rather than next Tuesday :)

But 5100 is a rounded number

Nope, 5000 has more of those round zeros in it :p

Congrats should be a fine gaming machine for many more years unless dev's really start pushing the envelope on 6-8 core chips which they might considering how many people will most likely jump over to 6-8 core chips. I for one will be making that jump cause my socket is dead platform and i don't want to invest anymore into it.

Fair. Still, I don't think a 1600x with it's 6 cores and lower clocks and IPC will outperform a 5ghz IPC beast. Either way, you enjoy your upgrade too. For me, I'm getting more IPC, higher oc and double the threads, with DDR4 vs DDR3 and 3200mhz vs 1600mhz ram at that. I have been long overdue, let's put it this way.

Thanks dude. I've checked some gaming benches and the minimum frame rate should sky rocket compared with the 2500k. Exciting times.

Yep no doubt eclap. Your going to see light and day performance difference. The i7 is not going to be outdone anytime soon by any games coming out.

We'll see. Just noticed that the binned, guaranteed 5ghz 7700k went up by £40 since I purchased mine a few hours ago. Bargain :)

Fair enough. Btw with a 5GHz 7700K will absolutely destroy Ryzen CPU's In gaming, even In productivity the chip will still be In Ryzen territory with 4 less cores and 8 less threads!!. 5GHz 7700K should net you around 16,600+ Physics Score In Firestrike, that's just mental!! You will definitely love this chip gl.

Right, just put the thing together. Building was easy, not a single issue. Windows install was a bit of a pita but done now.

Got the very basics running. Haven't touched the bios yet but I'm doing a quick run of RealBench.

I'm about 15 minutes in and the hottest 2 cores peaked at 65C but sit around 61 most of the time. The other cores fluctuate around 55C, even dropping into high 40s! Idle temp seems to be around 29-30C.

This is at stock 4.5ghz boost, the vcore is 1.216v with these stock settings. Can't wait to push this chip to 5ghz. Will update with pics tomorrow.
