    Hi

Ive been following this forum for a long time now, rarely comment or post something.

I, now, need the opinion of some guru gpu experts if you guys dont mind.

my build: (well in the sidebar but here it is anyways)
    - i7 2600k OC (4.4ghz)
    - ram 12gb 1800mhz (2x 2gb kingston hyperx + 2x 4gb corsair two brands having slightly diferent timings.. had to tweak in the bios so both could run at 1800mhz)
    - SSD 128 crucial m4
    - asus 570 gtx (pretty much outdated)
    - Want a solid 1080p 60 fps in a 60 hz screen (i dont wanna drop to 40-50ish) and i dont plan to buy 1440p or 120hz anytime soon unless im forced to and, ofc, the gpu handles it fine at 60fps+.

Budget.. well between a 1060 gtx (prolly not 3gb, not really looking worth it) and a 1070 gtx i dont really mind spending more 100€ if that would make a big difference on giving some power to my old 2011 PC so he could last a few more extra years running games smoothly.

Bottom line, i WANT TO PLAY MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA VERY BADLY (die hard ME fan)

Im inclined to a GTX 1070 MSI should be fine to run rise of tomb raider / witcher 3 / mass effect andromeda / other AAA titles for a while?

Thing is i know theres some new AMD gpus comming and prolly nvidia too, i kinda wanted nvidia UNLESS theres a big difference in gaming, and my pc handles it ofc.

Should i not bother and just buy a 1070gtx/1060gtx?

    Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: got a MSI 1070 gtx it runs MASS EFFECT Andromeda fantasticaly well with my setup, thanks for your tips :)

What is your budget? Do you game at 1080p? 1440p? 4k? 60hz? 120hz? 144hz? More?

If you're looking for 1080p 60hz and you're on a limited budget, a 1060 6gb will do great. Fairly cheap upgrade.

If you're looking for over 60fps at 1440p and above, tell us.

What is your RAM configuration btw? 2x4gb and 2x2gb?

uh yeh, missed that, sometimes i forget theres nowdays a s***ton of screen setups, i edited the main post but basically it will be:

    - solid 1080p 60 fps in a 60 hz screen (i dont wanna drop to 40-50ish) and i dont plan to buy 1440p or 120hz anytime soon unless im forced to and the gpu handles it fine at 60fps+.
I was planning to buy a gsync monitor but tbh i still dont know if its even worth it and most likely only in my next new PC.

    - RAM its 12gb but,if i recall correctly, its 2x 2gb kingston hyperx + 2x 4gb corsair 1800mhz the two brands have slightly diferent timings thought.. had to tweak in the bios so both could run at 1800mhz.

Budget.. well between a 1060 gtx (prolly not 3gb, not really looking worth it) and a 1070 gtx i dont really mind spending more 100€ if that would make a big difference on giving some power to my old 2011 PC so he could last a few more extra years running games smoothly.

Thing is i know theres some new AMD gpus comming and prolly nvidia too, i kinda wanted nvidia UNLESS theres a big difference in gaming, and my pc handles it ofc.

Should i not bother and just buy 1070gtx/1060gtx?

If you're going for a GTX1060 6GB, consider the RX480 8GB. It's cheaper, performs better, and offers you FreeSync.

If you already have a 1080p 60Hz monitor, you can try the latest FreeSync hack if it works on your monitor. If not, then 1080p 60Hz / 75Hz IPS / VA monitors with FreeSync from the likes of LG and Samsung are readily available for very competitive prices.

Well, i am surprised, in youtube theres actually alot of gameplays/benchmarks game specific with my old CPU and the newer GPUs.

1060 drops way below 60fps@1080p in some games with very high settings.
    1070 runs peacefully at +60 fps 1080p

oh well .. should have bought 2133 RAM, helps considerably according to those vids.

Well 1070gtx as a minimum or better yet used custom 980TI, probably cheaper.

ROTR can run fine with FXAA @1080p, but 2xSSAA you can look at 50ish fps drops, imo it looks a lot better with 2xSSAA then FXAA - I see more shimmer and more blurry.

Moderate OC'ed 980TI is faster in ROTR, max oc'ed 1070 @ 2.1MHz cant go over 112-115fps @ v.high, 980Ti @ 1.4Ghz goes over 125fps. Yeah that looks high, but visually not really ideal. Once @ Ultra things change fast, especially with 2xSSAA.

Also 2x8GB 2133MHz ram will help, 12GB can sometimes cripple and use pagefile more. Maybe you can even find good used 2400MHZ CL10 (g.skill Tridentx), then downclock to 2133mhz with lower CL9-10-10-27-1T >> 32GB/s, vs ~22-25GB/s @ 1600-1866MHz..

Im limited to DDR3, i could find some DDR3@2133 kits, it would help a bit but damn,... they are expensive.

I think ill skip it, not really worth the upgrade i guess :(

As Tj said, minimum 1070 or 980ti, they are about equal in performance when clocked.
My clocked ti still sees frame drops below 60fps on a few games at 1080p.
I cannot enable max settings on Witcher 3 for example.
But I'm pretty happy with it at 1080p, even though I will have a 1080ti tomorrow lol.

    Alternatively get a 1080.
Prices should have dropped or be dropping soon since the 1080ti release.
