I am trying to do something which should be simple, but all the software I use just screws it up.

First, I tried Catalyst CC to do the cloning, which works fine at first, but CCC will no longer run due to some missing "MOM implementation" or whatever.

So I have installed ATI Tray Tools, but this clunky bit of software is even worse. It detects my TV as the primary monitor and does not recognise my desktop monitor at all, let alone clone it.

I made the mistake of clicking "Extended Desktop" and both screens went blank!

All I want to do is clone the desktop on to the TV. Surely this should be easy.

Have you tried using windows' built in dual screen options?

I always just use the windows display properties menu rather than my gpu software.

I can find an option to extend the desktop in Windows XP display properties, but not to clone it. Am I being dim and missing something?

You will need to install CCC I'm afraid. I once cloned my desktop to test input lag on my TFT compared to CRT and ended up installing CCC temporarily.
