So here is the question I am thinking about throwing in another card in my pc but, I don't know if my pc can handle the load with a 750w Corsair PSU. So I reach out to you guys and ask :bang: * Case: Corsair Carbide Air 540 * Processor: Intel i7-4770k with Nepton 280l * Graphics Card: Nvidia Gigabyte 770 GTX * Motherboard: MSI Z87-S02 * Ram: Corsair 16GB 1600MHz * PSU: Corsair RM750 80+ Gold * Hardrive: 250gb SSD, and 2x 500gb and 2tb. I hope this information is enough, I have tried to calculate it but the darn calculator wont work on my pc. I am running overclock on my cpu but I am ready to take that away for a 2nd card.
Funny, you have almost the exact same build as my 2nd computer, where the psu just blew! In there, i have: 2x gtx 680 sli i5 4690k at 4,5 ghz msi z87 g45 gaming 2x4gb corsair vengance 2133 MHz 256 gb ssd, 3tb hdd and finally, a corsair cx750 I did a power calculation, which ended up at roughly 700 watt, but apparently i had forgotten to include overclocks into that calculation, so the psu blew, while trying to run it. Luckily i have my old 1200 watt thermaltake psu laying around as backup, so my gf can still play her precious sims 4 on it xD So now ive ordered a corsair rm1000 for it, so i dont run into the same issues Again. Point of story - if you plan on overclocking, 750 watt is likely on the short side.
Yeah, that sux Then you have to either not overclock anything, or hope you can sell your psu for close to new Price on ebay or something
So if I am running stock with the system it will be able to pull the 2x 770gtx?, it's not like my cpu needs overclock
Thats very likely, yes A stock 770 uses roughly 190 watt, where as an OC'ed 770 will use 225+ watt. Same with cpu, at stock it uses roughly 80 watt, but OC it, and watt usage can almost double, depending on how much you OC it.
Nah I wont overclock my graphics cards, I used to mess around alot with it ages ago where I even welded on the pcb board to increase voltage. But as for today the Nvidia Boost handels it fine, and getting oc performance of it, is like buying a car with 59hk. (I am not against slow cars or anything) This is from eXtreme outer vision with my 4770k oc'ed counted in, but I guess my current will handle it? I have to cash to buy a new psu but I really dont feel like it though :/. System Type: 1 physical CPU Motherboard: High End - Desktop CPU Socket: Socket LGA 1150 CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3500 MHz Haswell-DT Overclocked: 4650 MHz, 1.27 V CPU Utilization (TDP): 90% TDP RAM: 2 Sticks DDR3 SDRAM Video Card 1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 Video Card 2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 Video Type: SLI IDE HDD 7200 rpm: 2 HDDs Flash SSD: 1 Drive USB: 5 Devices Fans Regular: 2 Fans 120mm; 2 Fans 140mm; Water Cooling Kit: Cooler Master Seidon 240M Pump Relay: 1 Relay Keyboard and mouse: Yes System Load: 100 % Minimum PSU Wattage: 666 Watts Recommended Wattage: 716 Watts Or will the PSU run like crazy?
Sounds like you can keep that rm750 in that case I just OC'ed the system quite a bit, and ive probably needed like 100 watt more than i had EDIT : wait, did you remember to include psu age decline? I usually set it to 20%, cause thats likely how much power its lost in 3 years time.
So it's 100% safe?, I put the sytem load to 100% to be sure that it would work with my 750w. Running on the 90% (which is recommended) gives me a usage of 658w Good to go or really do that ****ty investing in new psu? I don't feel like under power my pc
quality 750 is prob the bare minimum you would want to use. You should be ok, lots of people ran 680 sli on quality 750 watt.
yeah, 750w should be ok, if it's a quality unit, I wouldn't really want to go lower than that. My 2x 7950 are pretty heavily overclocked and draw about as much power as 770 sli at stock ish. Everything else is also overclocked pretty heavily. Lots of hard drives etc.
the problem wasn't the 750 watts, no offense but, the problem was the corsair CX series; which are great for desktop/workstations but not for enthusiasts/gaming/overclocked rigs.
from my experience, a quality 800watt or so should do you good. i had a 875watt thermaltake psu with the exact same rig in my sig with the overclock and it ran flawlessly
You are likely right - i just figured that the 80+ certificate (which i assume they dont hand out, unless it actually fulfills the reqruirements), meant that it would be sufficient, as again the rig is just mostly used for sims 4 (again, just my gf using it). I surpose the AX or RM versions of the 750 watt corsair psu's would have been ok, but now ive ordered the rm1000, so i deffo dont run into issues again
actually they do hand them out without testing if its a "rebrand": http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Can-We-Trust-the-80-Plus-Certification/856/2 or manufacturers simply send a cherry picked unit to be tested: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/10/04/80_plus_irrelevant_to_you_when_buying_psu/#.VBT-_WTF9_R all hail jonny guru's and tech power up's PSU reviews
