sorry for any errors or mistypes. worked nightshift and came home and worked on this. Iam in the process of rebuilding a AMD system processor is AMD 1090t removing AMD 5800 series vid card and I was reading that a nvidia 580 should work fine with 500 watt psu but I could not get it to work. card is asus nvidia 580 with direct cu II psu is antec earthwatts 500 watt with 2 6 pin for pci express I had to use 1 6 pin to 8 pin cable and 1 molex cable to 8 pin the system runs. but when I run furmark. it runs for maybe 5 seconds and then computer shuts off. I have to unplug the power cable and replug it before computer will turn on. do I need a more powerful psu would a 600 watt or 700watt be good?
That's cutting it close and unless it is a high quality 500 watt with decent amps on the 12v rail. What make is it power supply that is of course? It does seem to be power related.
That's a Seasonic built unit that was released in 2008, good for the time but it's a little long in the tooth now. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/511?vs=517 Quite a bit more power consumption on load than the 5870. It's most likely the PSU. Worth checking that the 580 runs in another rig just to be sure.
amazon seems the best with lower price and free shipping http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Build...F8&qid=1394441461&sr=8-2&keywords=corsair+600 or maybe the 750watt
You could also pick up a 550-650w XFX unit for that sort of money, Seasonic built vs CWT for the Corsair Builder series. Either should run a single gpu setup pretty well.
Pick one PSU that has at least 42A, my 650W with 52A works just fine, can sustain high gpu OC 900mhz 1.10v np.
i need a better ps -i have same symptoms -gtx 570-under clocked 732>723 1900>1875 rarely do i get a benchmark to run reliably -
