    Not as 1st as me!..

Not really impressed, was too long coming, I'd still buy a 5870 just because I don't really like the numbers 470/480, just looks weird. That's how I! buy hardware :infinity:

    EDIT: sod off mitzi :p

Took 6 months to see it failing on performance vs power consumption.

nVidia now should drop prices really quick, if they want to compete at all.

Review was good, definitely takes the performance crown, but at 6 months it should have probably been a lot better. They need to get their memory controller up to the same speed as AMD and get those extra shaders working.

Hrm. Well. I won't deny that the 480 is a little faster then the 5870 in terms of raw performance, but it's not worth the +$100 USD price tag over it.

I was on the fence between the 5870 and the 480 (looking to upgrade from my 4870 512MB).

I think I'll be happy with the 5870. Who knows, maybe once the 480's actually HIT the street, it'll be closer to the 5870 in price. I'd pay $15-$25 more than the 5870, but that's about it. (Hey, I'm cheap). :)

Too long, read the last page though and it looks good, nould probably read it all if I was in the market, but I don't go high end, although I spend most my time on my PC what I have now is fine for me. Anyway, from a skim of the review it looks good. Thanks

I don't expect now AMD droping prices, thats pretty bad , i was hoping for HD5850 come down a little bit.

    Great review as always Hilbert!

I was really curious about the performance of the 470, because i´m considering it to replace my 8800GT, and i´m a little disappointed, i was expecting a bigger lead over the 5850. The strong points of fermi appear to be their performance on DX11. I also expected the clocks (specially the memory ones) to be higher.

Let´s hope the GTX470 is sold below 300€ or that ATI drops their prices.

Well that is disappointing. The 480 is only marginally better than the 5870. Not worth getting 3 extra FPS for $100 extra dollars.
480 EPIC FAIL for how long it took to come out.

The 470...on the other hand. It's a beast! It rapes badly the 5850! And it's only $30-50 dollars more for near DRASTIC improvement.

It looks to me like each company's cards fit their release times. The 5870 is a first gen DX11 card and Fermi performs more like a second gen one.

I'm sure we all would have liked to have seen how much you had to turn up the fan to overclock them, since they load in the mid 90s, and how loud it was, when you did.

in some of the benchmarks, I thought I saw the 470 coming close to 5870 performance, drastically beating some 5850 marks.

Then again, I'm on motrin right now because I hurt my back at the gym too...so...

Congratulations ATI, Its your year! Unless Nvidia drops their prices waaaay down.

Dissapointed, I was hoping for some nice performance due to their 6 months " Advantage " but nothing happened :(

Not a Fanboy, I just like whats best, and Ati is the best one at this moment.

great review, thanks Hilbert... i don´t what to say.. the gtx480 sometimes beats the 5970, and almost always above the 5870.. but i would prefer the gtx470, cheaper and by miles better than the 5850, and two of then FTW..
