That'd be me to start with. Anyone else put down any money for these yet? Ordered a couple from Scan that should be with me tomorrow. I'm selling my old 680's cheap (£260, UK) - please see here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=378610 Cards arrived so here's my initial quick hour of Overclocking experience (apologies for lack of scientific approach ): Benchmark is Heaven 4.0, DX11, Quality Ultra, Tess Extreme, AA x8, 1920x1080 Fullscreen At stock settings but with power / temp target set to the max 106%/94C ~86C Load Fan 70% (auto) PerfCap Reason - VRel FPS 32-205 (99 AVG) SCORE 2488 As above but with max voltage on both cards +38mV (1.187v load) ~86C Load Fan 70% (auto) PerfCap Reason - VRel FPS 33-217 (103 AVG) SCORE 2598 It was running a bit hot with default fan settings so I forced the fan to 100% for my next tests and I got the below: +200 core (1228Mhz), +100 mem (3105Mhz), power / temp target set to the max 106%/94C ~76C Load Fan 100% (manual) PerfCap Reason - VRel FPS 33-236 (115 AVG) SCORE 2905 EDIT: I seem to get little improvement from increasing the voltage so here is my current overclock at stock volts. Core +175 (200 was fine in Heaven but BF3 killed it) Mem +650 (700 minor artifacts in Heaven) So far solid for an hour on Heaven. EDIT: Now using modded bios to enable 115% power target and 1.212v, I can now get a stable +250 / + 650 overclock This results in 1150 core / 3649 (7298) mem. Gets about 21500 graphics score in 3DMark Fire Strike. For reference at stock clocks @ 100% TDP graphics score was 14636 and 115% TDP graphics score was 16925. Not a bad jump in performance! Modded bios can be found here http://www.techinferno.com/downloads/?did=62
Working on it...asked canadacomputers (my local shop) if they can match NCIX's price...one way or the other I'm ordering 2 before the end of the day
looks like a nice upgrade for me but i do think a tad pricey...also might be better to wait for 8970/770 reviews.
There won't be a non-OEM 8970 and the 770 is an overclocked 680 with RAM that will overclock much higher on average than the 680's RAM.
mmm what's the prob with non-oem 8970? (i think i get why). but thks that might narrow things down a bit.
I ordered an EVGA GTX 780 from Scan for £549 for delivery on Saturday. It is replacing my current GTX 680 SLI setup. Yup, I'm going to lose performance but I gain 50% more VRAM and more compatibility with all my games due to not having to rely on SLI driver updates. SLI was a bit excessive for me anyway as I play games at 1920x1200 on a 60 Hz display with v-sync enabled. Most games just never really took advantage of SLI, although I will admit it was nice having lower overall GPU temperatures due them sharing the load. Whether I will miss SLI and the extra performance for the few games that did use it remains to be seen. I am adamant though that my multi-GPU days are over for now having had the chance to try both CFX (HD 5870) and now SLI. I think SLI is definitely better the CFX but until all games support it fully and without silly annoyances like having to physically disable it to play some games properly - Book of Unwritten Tales, Trials Evolution and Zack Zero I'm looking you - then I will sticking with single GPU cards for the forseeable future.
AMD canned their plans for a consumer grade 8970. The OEM 8970 is a 7970. The OEM 8950 is a 7950. No idea what the real 8970 would have been. THe 9970 coming at the end of this year will flatten everything that is currently out. It's the X800XT PE to the Radeon 9700/9800. The GTX 280/285 to the GTX 8800. It's going to be the HD 7970 on steroids.
Yes, it definitely it by about £100-£125 in my view. If it had been £400-£420 then it would definitely have been a more appealing buy for people wanting to upgrade from a GTX 570/580 or GTX 670/680. At £550+ though it puts into the 'luxury' category but I feel the GTX 780 offers better value than the Titan at least. I was considering buying a Titan but on reflection I think forking out £300 more for 3 GB of VRAM that I have no need for and a bit of extra performance would have been a waste of money.
After reading few reviews and seeing like 8% less performance for like 35% lower price than titan with sweet spot VRAM amount (at least for me) it is quite a good (maybe a bit pricey) upgrade. Ordered my EVGA GTX 780 off scan.co.uk for £549 and like 20 min later the price for the same card was £587. Should arrive tomorrow, just can't wait.
Ordered a KFA model off OCUK, don't trust EVGA SC models after all the stability problems I've seen people having, and I'm sure I could probably get close to that OC anyway!
why no in-game currency offer? i think i would be more tempted if i knew i was going to get some money to spend in wot.
There shouldn't be. Jacob over at EVGA said there is no difference between the 2 other than the obvious.
