I didn't expect GTX 980 to have such great OC potential so I kept waiting to sell my EVGA GTX 780 Ti SuperClocked with ACX coooler and backplate that does 1250Mhz GPU and 7500Mhz VRAM @ 1.21v, 350W Power Target, and with Boost disabled on simple air. I game @ 1080p, but I also love 4x SSAA, which lowers framerate big time. So I have 3 major dilemmas here: 1. When GTX 980 super-good OC is taken into consideration, would replacing my GTX 780 Ti card with GTX 980 be worth it? Any idea when EVGA GTX 980 SuperClocked ACX is coming out? Do you think they will allow to do a step-up? 2. Another issue is that GTX 980 and 970 and halt on GTX 780/Ti/Titan products did some damage to GTX 780/Ti/Titan selling value. I would only upgrade if there was still time to sell my GTX 780 Ti for at least half the NewEgg price it was selling for just a month ago..? Do you think its too late to sell my GTX 780 Ti for that much on any forums or eBay since GTX 980 costs only $550??? 3. Finally, if I am to go 1080p with 4x SSAA / 4K (needs SLI), does it make more sense to sell GTX 780 Ti and get GTX 980 SLI or just wait until GTX 780 Ti prices go way down and get another GTX 780 Ti to end up with GTX 780 Ti SLI? I have big doubts GTX 780 Ti prices will go down by a whole lot because GTX 580 prices remained high even when GTX 680 came out. I also have big doubts that 3GB is VRAM is enough for the next 2 years of gaming @ 4K! Please advice! Time is of the essence! I must act quick, be vigilant, and give no quarter if I am to be victorious in this vicious cycle of never-ending PC upgrading.
Ti prices have already gone down if your in the USA check newegg. With the lower prices and the faster cheaper 980 resale value took a nose dive.
I am checking and so far GTX 780 Ti are mostly out of stock, but their prices haven't changed. I am hoping to sell it for $400 or so... too much?
I thought about it but for me, it's not worth it, when both are overclocked, they perform the same as far as I can see. I couldn't justify it for 1gb more RAM and less power consumption. I'll wait till the big daddy comes out, even though that's probably a year off from now.
There is only ONE reason to go SLI for me and that's 4K. 3GB is plenty for 1080p, just about right for 1440p, and can handle many 4K titles, BUT some titles do need 4GB for 4K and I expect more of such titles to appear. So if I go SLI, it would absolutely have to be with a 4GB card...
Suit yourself - i find that many titles could use the power of 780 ti sli even at 1440p But if you wish to go 4k, then you better get the big wallet, cause youre gonna need to go 3 way sli to get consistant 60 fps (or more) there.
1440p and high iq settings require a lot of gpu power. You will have to lower many settings to get a playable frame rate with 1 card at 1440p. I estimate I would need min 780ti tri sli for 4k based on my experiences on 1440p. 1080 60 hz is fine for 1 card. But if you want to run 1080 120 or 144hz I would go with 2 cards.
Well, actually I am only interested in doing 4K to 1080p downsampling. My monitor is @ 120Hz too, so if I can't do 4K @ 60fps, I can always use 1080p @ much higher FPS. So far, almost all games, except for Crysis 3, Project CARS, and I think another game need more than GTX 780 (non-Ti) SLI to run 4K @ 60fps. Thinking out loud: I don't know if I can handle high input lag because from mouse to monitor total input lag is 20ms on my setup. SLI would add at least 8ms more @ 120Hz, but that's without V-Sync, which would result in stuttery performance. If I go SLI and add V-Sync, then I will end up with extra 16ms, I think, and total of 36ms from mouse to monitor sounds barely acceptable for single player games, and definitely UN-acceptable for multi-player games. Then again, for games like BF4, I can just disable SLI and enjoy it @ 1080p with a single card... Bah.... decisions, decisions, decisions... One thing is for sure - I will NOT spend more than $450 on used GTX 780 Ti because GTX 980 costs only $550, making anything above $450 is a pretty bad deal on GTX 780 Ti. That is only the reason I would only ask $400-$450 if I sell mine.
GTX 780 (non-Ti) SLI 3GB runs almost all known games @ 4K @ 60fps, with exceptions like Crysis 3. Not even GTX 780 Ti quad-SLI can pull 120fps @ 1080p in all games, but it would be close. GTX 780 Ti SLI @ 1080p would also be awesome @ 1080p. When you have a 120Hz monitor, 40fps looks a lot choppier/laggy/stuttery than same 40fps @ 60Hz. I pretty much NEED 60fps @ 1080p to have fluid motion.
Its overkill at 1080p with 2 780 ti sli 60hz. I ran 780ti sli for a couple weeks. What is your experience in resolutions besides 1080?
