Hi Guys. I compiled a helper that reads MSI Afterburner memory instead of RivaTuner. Therefore you can use the sidebar gadget if you want. Here is what you need to do:

    1. Download and install the gadget from Microsoft's Site or here on Guru3D
    2. Close the gadget
    3. Download this file and overwrite the one at "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\GPUMonitor.gadget\"
    4. Open the gadget

Here is a sample of my GTX280 on Win7x64 with Afterburner 1.5.1 running Kombuster.

Let me know if you have any issues.

Wait... how is this different than having, say, my temps in the system tray where they don't take up screen real estate?

How is the systray better than, say, the LCD or OSD display options where they don't up any system tray real estate?

Like the systray option better, then use that. It is just another "option" for users until Afterburner includes a gadget of its own......but it might be "slightly" different. You just have to look closely.

ouch much, never said that either of them was better than the other, I just wanted to know what the difference was if any. Hell, I like the graphs much better than just simple unnatributed #'s in my system tray, cause then I know what is what. I would usually attempt to end with some witty remark, however its too early for that...

Sorry, but thought the differences were obvious and you were being smug.

As you mention, you can see the data source name, not just the number. But you can also display a bar, graph which shows the last 100 readings (not just the current), flyout has min/max history, change colors and display styles to suite your taste, etc.

Works great! The only thing i got confused on was the script part, i really didn't know which file to over write with that, as when i click to download it, it takes me directly to the script. NVM, i figured it out,

    Great job, stangowner!

You aren't by any chance working on an Afterburner plug-in for Rainmeter (http://rainmeter.net/RainCMS/), are you? :D

No, but that's an interesting thought. I'm too busy with other projects ATM, but maybe I'll play with it on a rainy day. :)

No, don't run both of them.

That is the default behavior for the download. The gadget was designed for Rivatuner. You have to close the gadget and replace the GPUMonitor.exe file linked at the beginning of the first post. This one is designed to work with Afterburner.

Once you do so, you will no longer see failed to connect to RivaTuner.....you would see failed to connect to MSI Afterburner if it is not running. You do not need RivaTuner installed at all.

Good news. I have a plug-in that is contributing MSI Afterburner data to the Rainmeter GUI (just hard coded data source to test for now). It is working with both 32 and 64 bit versions of Rainmeter. Just give me a little time to learn a little about Rainmeter as I don't use it. I need to make the plug-in configurable with the Rainmeter .ini files.

Good stuff will be looking forward to it.

When you do figure it out can you also implement it in the templates they have in the Omnimo Rainmeter theme.

    Thanks.

there are gadgets around that dont need programms running in the back.
for temps etc..cause i always hate it to have things running in background only to see how hot it is..

any way heres a link..maybe you can use the driver they using to make one without afterburner ;)
