Good day kind souls So awhile ago I posted for help on upgrading my parts, I have thus done so to: Asus maximus z97 VII Ranger ROG mother board I5 4690K 2 x 4gb Kingston HyperX cl10 1866mhz ram Red Cooler master 212x Case: Raidmax vortex 402 1 Coolermaster sickleflow airflow RED 120mm fan infront 1 Coolermaster sickleflow airflow RED 120mm fan exhaust Rest of the PC: Samsung 850 Evo 250gb Seagate 2tb WD Green 1tb Seasonic M12II 520w evo I overclocked my I5 4690K to 4.5ghz at 1.23vcore My temperatures with a closed case and fans running about 80% are CPU between 65 - 69 on all cores under full load during games like battlefield 4 / Witcher 3. Idle is between 41-45 with fans on normal so (CPU 600-800 rpm and Case fans 600-800 rpm) Now I spoke to some friends with I5s and they say it is way too high and that I should not overclock either.:3eyes: It gives me much more FPS in every game I play esp bf4 which I play ALOT of. Are these temps okay? EDIT: Room ambient temperature was around 25 degrees C when I tested it.
rofl 65-69 sounds perfectly good to me, you're all good dude, and that's a good oc, you didn't have to raise the voltage too much, don't listen to your friends.
Thanks was my thought! I hit 71 degrees now and then for maybe a few seconds but average temp sits some times 61 on all cores. I plan on upgrading my case to a Nzxt s340 (love the design) and adding more fans into the mix. Is 74 degrees under load on my GPU bad? MSI r9270 2gb oc edition @ power limit +20% Core clock 1050mhz Memory clock 1500mhz Idles around 31 degrees and sits between 68-74 under load:nerd:
That´s why you should check it with the gurus! Temps and voltage are great and the 4.5ghz overclock is nice.
if you look back I have come here for advice every time I have upgraded my PC:banana: I was just abit worried reading up on forums, Asus auto tune had it at 4.4ghz and 1.3vc -1.313vc which shot my temps up to the 70s and 80s. Since I have it at 1.23vc temps dropped ofcourse. I tried 1.200vc and used prime 95 2.85 but my pc restarted immediately, since I bumped it to 1.23vc has been 100% stable. Prime 95 did push the temps past85 though after 20 min test. :3eyes:
Everything looks as it should be. And yes you can and should overclock, cpus live long enough with reasonable overclocks, and you bought the K model for a reason I guess Asus Auto Tune is already known to apply way too much voltage, had similar things when I activated that for a brief time with my current setup. Turns out I can overclock to 4.5 with 1.25v, where Auto Tune thought 4.4 and 1.4v (!!) was good... And yes prime95 is very intensive, iirc it's about the avx commands that usually are not required to game, but very intensive on the cpu during benching.
prime95 is kinda torture test, you wont have such high temps with normal usage such as gaming. If you want a reasonable stress test to see temps and test stability i recommend x264. google it
