Help picking a new 1080p 42" TV -
05-30-2012, 17:29
Hey guys, time to buy a new TV.
This time it will be a 42".
I plan to watch mostly TV, sports ( alot ) and the occasional movie on this TV, all in HD ( 720p movies etc and all sports in 1080p ).
I need a very good picture quality and colours since I am very fuzzy about that, sound hasn't have to be top notch at all, will use an older analog amp to get the sound the way I like it anyway.
Budget is around 1200 dollars/900 euro/750 pounds +/- 10%.
Appriciate the help guys!

I will NOT join any flame wars, I'll just state my preferences:
I've seen many TV's, but my choice fo a long time is (and I guess will be) - Samsung (LED).
Thought, there's no 42'' models - it's either 40'' or 46'', and I am not sure about prices in Sweden (or where you live), but I think you will be able to take one from 7000 or 8000 series. Even today's 6000 series is awesome (but there may be some "surprises" with matrices...).

Right, so I pulled the trigger today, still without any answers ( wich made me nervous and prone to be taken advantage of at the dealers ).
Anyhow, I had a hard look at their selection of 37-42" TVs from around 700-1000 euro and was chosing between a Philips and a Samsung.
I then was offered an older model of a Sony Bravia LED model 40LX90 ( KDL40X900AEP ) for around 800 euro, he said it was an older model 1.5-2 years but was still among the best in its size when it came to pure picture quality, something I stressed was like the nr1 thing I wanted in this TV ( since my monitor was 1300 euro I can't really buy a TV that has worse IQ that be dumb I think ).
Anyway, what you think about my pick? 40LX90 ( KDL40X900AEP ) good one or just outdated trash that I should return?
I'm looking for reviews of the TV as we speak but havn't found any, so if you know a good site for TVs like Prad.de is for monitors then please share

I found this review link to review site

PANASONIC TXP42ST50B
1080P 42 inch 3D Plasma, 2000 Hz, 5.5 mill to 1 contrast ratio, 3 HDMI connections,
Only thing which has better picture quality @ 42 inch hasn't been made yet.
Oh, and the input lag is 0.001 milliseconds - untouchable.

Definitely recommend a good plasma.
I have a 4 year old Panny 42" 1080p and its great for detailed fast moving objects.
Colour is lovely.

Those who still believe plasma is better for fast moving objects even today are just full of BS. On top of this, different people will judge IQ differently. As for all the bias towards one specific brand versus another... you won't get many objective opinions here. My next one will probably be an LG "Full LED" TV. Best Product of 2012 at CES Las Vegas ring any bells to anyone?

Was that the O-LED model? Looks really nice and sure to become the 1337 choice for the future.
Until then, Plasma is the one to plump for - expecially for the price this thread is about.

Wow, this thread is still on the 1st page, moving slow over here
In the end I ended up with a Sony Bravia XBR/KDL-40LX900 @ 850 euro's, got a nice deal after some haggling at the store. Have to say I'm really impressed with the tv, can even stream movies wirelessly from the computor (downstairs) plug and play, didn't even know TVs could do that
