This is also one of the shortest blockbuster games I ever played. All the more damning as a single player game only. I think I spent no more than 7-8 hours on it.
Also wondering if most of the reviews got their cues from other reviews/previews in the unusually exaggerated scores they gave the game. The over-hype this game got makes me shake my head to this day.

If you ran through this game that fast you should consider changing your playstyle
You can even finish games like Fallout 3 in 25-30 hours but it may also last you 100 hours easily.
I did the same thing in this game that I normally do in Call of Duty games: Pick the highest difficulty setting and "explore" the levels (yes I know, sounds funny in combination). You get to see much more and the game easily lasts 20 hours instead of the normal 5-8 hours.

To be honest, before I used to try running through games and absolutely sucked at it. Games simply were too difficult for me and I had to play on easy, even then had issues speed running. Now with experience, I try to let a game last as long as I can.
This involves finding all voxophones, sketching out the story, finding all ciphers, all infusions, etc.
Considering I payed 60$ for it, I'd most definitely not want to burn it off instantly, and let it last for a while.
I'm still playing the game, and its a new experience with my custom sweetfx config, and texture streaming almost fixed. And playing it on easy, so that my weapons and vigors feel some power to them. Hard & 1999 make all weapons peashooters. Having waay more fun in easy. Atleast my weapons feel powerful. Might give normal a try.
I'm replaying the game because the art style really gets to me. I really like the lighting. I tried disabling bloom, but that made the textures feel horrible.

Those are fair criticisms of the game, but the thing is, you have to realize that a lot of them stem from console limitations.
To make the world more fleshed out, more believable and with more choices, you have to add more content and more interaction and the consoles are already being pushed to their absolute limit.

According to Steam, it took me 25 hours to beat the game the first time. I did as much exploring as possible though and really took my time.
Enjoyed the game immensely, despite it's numerous flaws..

I've played BI twice now and what the guy points out is exactly right. The game is good...no question...but it's clear they focused on some aspects while leaving others weak and unpolished. I think whatever caused them to pull back and change direction in what the game was originally shaping up to become could explain some of it.
It's like making a movie. A lot of what was originally filmed ends up on the cutting room floor. I think this is what happened with Bioshock Infinite.

Quote:
1) Improvements to help reduce frame-rate "hitching" or "stuttering" that may occur when playing the game on some hardware configurations.
NOTE: Frame-rate consistency is best when playing with the Graphics Option titled "Lock Framerate" set to ON (i.e. v-sync enabled).
2) Fix some users being unable to switch the Texture Detail option to any setting other than Low or Very Low.
NOTE: Users should now have all options available to them. However, playing on extremely high resolutions and/or detail levels can result in texture artifacts if the video card does not have enough video RAM to fully satisfy the memory requirements of that configuration. If this occurs, reducing resolution, graphics quality, and/or texture detail may help alleviate these artifacts.
3) Adjustments to the Mouse Sensitivity option to facilitate lowering sensitivity further
NOTE: This may cause changes to mouse sensitivity for existing players, requiring them to re-adjust sensitivity.
4) Fix for the Nav-Aid occasionally suggesting that the player use a Sky-Line that is not currently available for use.
5) Fix for a rare crash when using a Sky-Line Strike attack on a Handyman.
6) Fix for an issue that may cause checkpoint progress to become inaccessible and appear to be lost.
7) Changes to improve overall game stability.

Patch 4 is out.
