Default Battery wearing out already? - 05-26-2012, 20:15 | posts: 3,445 | Location: Cheshire, England

I've owned this Dell Inspiron just for 3days so far and I've just noticed this in HWmonitor

I thought it might be a mistake but Aida64 states 4% wear level already along with this from the Dell diagnostic utility

Quote:
Battery Name: DELL JXFRP22
Manufacturer Name: Samsung SDI
Type: LION - Lithium Ion
Battery Serial Number: 7921
Designed Capacity Percentage: 96
Current Charge Percentage: 53
Current Charge: 24.83 Wh
Full Charged Capacity: 46.89 Wh
Designed Capacity: 48.84 Wh
So is this a common problem? should I just return the entire unit or do I just have a bad battery?

Thanks,

I take it you have a bad battery.

Recently I bought a new laptop myself. Though the battery is meant to last 5-6 hours I get between 2-3.

Even when heavily tweaked the battery life did not improve at all.

My battery seems to be faulty and not running as it should.

Best bet is to buy a brand new battery and when testing it you'll know right away if the previous battery was faulty or not.

Problem with buying a new battery though is its extra expense right now... in saying that though, over the life of a laptop you probably need a new battery anyway...

Thanks for the replies I'll contact Dell tomorrow and ask them to replace the battery since that is 3 days old

If it happens again I'll just return the entire unit and get a Samsung or something else

i tested my Dell laptop, wich i own for several weeks, and HWMonitor shows the same wear level as your battery.
Maybe is a incorect reading,a software bug..
Contact Dell and see what they have to say.
