Hi All I have been experiencing a grey screen problem in my PC for a while. It is not a regular blue screen problem with error codes. It is a grey screen with no writings and I have to reset my PC when I have this. It generally happens when I surf on the net or when I do some petty work on the desktop which doesn't push the CPU at all. No problem occurs while playing games. My PC is pretty old.... P45 Asus P5Q Mobo Intel E8500 @4.00 Ghz CPU 4 GB DDR2 Ram 1066 Mhz Ati XFX 6950 1 GB VGA GlacialPower GP-AL650 650 Watt PSU Enermax Chakra midtower case (120 mm x 2 fan + 250 mm case side fan) I tested my hardwares.... - Rams completes Memtest 86+ test without a problem - VGA completes 3DMark11 test and gets a good score comparing its capacity (4653 point) - I ran Prime 95 test for 1 ho***305;ur and Orthos test for 2 hours without a problem so CPU seems OK. - My PSU is pretty good http://www.bjorn3d.com/2008/09/glacialpower-gp-al650-650-watt-psu/ I formatted and reloaded my operating system Win 7 but the problem wasn't solved. What might be the problem and what should I do to get rid of it. Thanks
Yes CPU is OC'ed but it passes stress test as I stated in my first post. I guess the problem is AKA "Grey Screen of Death" of Ati cards, right ???
To troubleshoot anything, disable all OCs first Sounds like a GPU issue, but you need to be stock clocks to work it out really Tried using DDU to remove the drivers, then reinstalled them?
Check this out: http://www.overclock.net/t/650900/gray-screen-explained-5xxx-series-updated-w-solution it suggests increasing your CPU Vcore as a solution (even if your CPU is stable). Try in small steps if you like. You could also try a different driver version, based on the thread this shouldn't be an issue since Catalyst 10.3, but may have been reintroduced in newer drivers. A "legacy" driver might be your best bet, check the "AMD Catalyst Drivers" section of this forum for possible suggestions.
No I haven't. Is it really necessary? Defaulting CPU means app. %25 performance loss for me and E8500 is already a low-end CPU. Anyway, I will use it at its default speeds and test it for a while.
You're trying to troubleshoot a possible GPU issue, sorting the drivers out would be the first thing you should be trying, and DDU does a thorough job of that
np and do use DDU when switching drivers like Extraordinary said. It's basically mandatory with AMD drivers.
