Default Dirt Showdown Performance?? - 08-18-2012, 14:56 | posts: 4,423 | Location: Wolverhampton/United Kingdom

Got a Dirt Showdown code with my new 7970 and thought I may as well give it a blast.

Performance, is not very good though. The menus, are locked at 60fps all the time, the first level I played was locked at 60fps all time, but the second race i the game in Miami the fps sank to around 39fps-50fps still quite smooth and playable but nowehere near to 60fps I prefer for racing games.

Using 12.8 drivers, all settings maxed out, 1080p, with 8xAA (which barely touches 900MB usage).

Any ideas?

Locked? Idk it runs above 60fps here with vsync off

Maybe its Global Illumination fault, it can be demanding.

Im playing at 1600x1200, 4xaa, shadows -high, AO- high, GI off, rest maxed and im @ 60fps vsync'ed.

With Global Illumination and Advanced Lightning the performance expected on a single 7970 is around 35fps.
If you want to keep ultra preset and both option turned on you need to crossfire, otherwise is a no go.
You can however keep the ultra preset and disable one of those two options. I think that GI should be disabled and AL should be on (basically leave ON only the one that shows car lights retractions).
That should keep your game running at steady 60fps.

Ha, you were right, left everything maxed out 8xaa 1080p, just turned off Global Illumination and bam! 60fps solid. With a little dip here and there to 55fps but it jumps straight back up, I think it was just buffering the map up as once it did this twice in a race it was all 60fps from then on. Raced a for more races and no more dips all solid.

Thanks! Might run this with Gloabl Illumination on and see if I can use dxtory to cap fps at 30 and see if I can still control the card LOL.

cool

AA is the next thing that takes a big hit followed by AO and Shadows.

AO- Ultra, Shadows - ultra take away 10-14fps vs High; maybe its less on your 7970

Driver issues perhaps?

I'm running DiRT Showdown maxed out on my rig and frame rates never touch 50's.
