    Hi, Just got these instructions from MSI to flash my GTX 970. Is this method safe to use?
    Is there a better way to do it. Many thanks for any help.

    1.Download the attached rar file and extract it on your disk ;
    2.Open a command prompt in Windows (shortcut key: windows+R) go to the folder(cd filename);
    3.Type: nvflash.exe NV316MH.186.rom -A -6
    4.Press enter;
    5.When it prompts you reboot, please type:reboot and press enter to reboot your systerm.

    Well the command line itself (#3) does not look odd to me. -a shows all available adapters (cards that have the right hardware, as in all 970s in your system), -6 overrides not matching PCI subsystem ID (of your card, in case you'd be flashing somebody else's bios, as in a new one, not your own factory bios modified).

    Use this as a reference:

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1517316/extract-and-flash-gtx-970-and-980-firmware-zosons-h2o-and-air-custom-bios (do not necessarily use their BIOS files as zoson and joedirt warned against it eventually, mod your own if you want to change something beyond MSI's file)

    edit: just as I noticed, you need to disable your device (970) in the device manage before flashing since Maxwell, iirc. Somebody else please correct me if wrong. Disable, flash bios, reboot.

    You should be fine. Just disable the card in the device manager first, or flashing won't work properly. Use the command lines given to you by MSI.

    The command should be a bit different IIRC. The last two bits should be before the nameofBIOS.rom

    By the way this is the 84.04.36.00.F1 BIOS.

    Good that it's not bricked ;) I hope MSI's bios takes care of your issues.

    nvflash --protectoff
    nvflash --index=0 -6 yourbios.rom
    y to confirm
    nvflash --protecton
    reboot
