hello all, i have Radeon 9500 np 128MB i tried almost everything to enable it operating as 9700 but with no success. the steps i took: update the bios (WARP11 flash) apply the rivaTuner script on various ATI drivers. .............. i have many steps to cover but i will mention the most important ones. i installed the omega driver version 5.4(latest) rebooted and it was ok. ran the rivaTuner and saw that the data was 256bit (4x1) so i switched the driver again by Omega tool of rolling the driver to a 9700 compatible. when i reboot i get a black screen. however when i reboot again and send the OS to come up in the VGA mode i get the screen in 640x480 resolution(which is ok 4 VGA) and when i run the rivaTuner i get that the extra 4 pipes have been released meaning 256bit (8x1). conclusion: the driver update was not correctly done. i used every tool possible but cant reboot successfully with the patched driver. it is meaningless to say that i tried the rivaTuner SCRIPT to apply on various ATI drivers from 4.6 to 5.6. please if you can help with the black screen. please. BTW rivaTuner 2.0 RC 15.5.
All R300s boot with 8 pixel pipelines enabled, so there is nothing strange that you've seen 81x in VGA mode with no ATI driver installed. Then the driver chooses 4x1/8x1 config during startup and enabling hardware acceleration. If your system always hangs when the driver enables hardware acceleration with 8x1 config - your mod is unsucessfull and additional quad is simply faulty. So forget about it.
