i saw it twice now, and loving the second viewing, the score is very involving also, the plot is superb, the direction also, i think this movie is a perfect imitation of what humans would do in case of catastrophe when earth is unlivable anymore. space scenes, i was left in awe for the warm hole and black hole design, superb experience.

In my opinion not very high. I didn't really care for it. It was a decent watch but there are far better movies for me.

I recall being disappointed, a black hole being the gate way to a fifth dimension?

It fit the idea that an event horizon is a place where time itself doesn't exist.

I thought it was a good movie but not for the sci-fi. I liked it for the story of family and paternal instinct. As a father myself it hits me in the feels.

I liked it. It's a solid movie. I'm not sure where I'd rank it but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't crack my top 50 sci-fi films. It'd maybe crack the top 100. But that's obviously subjective.

    10/10. Great movie.

I think people confuse "science fiction" with "science fiction action". This is not an action movie. This is a pure sci fi movie, and as such, it's one of the best I ever watched.

It has a very deliberate and indulgent sense of purpose, with a plot that could be hacked apart with anyones' bare hands due to the holes it has.

Taking off and landing is a problem until it's not, oxygen is a problem until it's not, bio-diverse planets are a problem until they are not, time is a problem until it's not.

It was so forced and such a let down after Inception.

Inception was such a good crime thriller, it made me forget how much I despise Leo and his yelling.

Interstellar was so 'meh'. I literally forgot I had watched it until I saw this post.

I liked to watch it, but I don't think it's the best sci fi movie of all times, sorry.
I enjoyed the new way of thinking and putting some new ideas into that movie (yes black hole 5th dimension portal), but after all it's just a movie, so I am not surprised that it's not scientifically acurate (or it might be because we still don't know that much about things).

One of best casts movie can have. As for SF part, I was not impressed. Effects... nice.
If I ever see it again, it will be for actors.

From recent movies I liked very much:
    And SF horror:

It's a good film and in terms of pure spectacle I'd say it's up there. Nowhere the best though, Blade Runner, 2001, Alien, Metropolis, Close Encounters, Moon, The Matrix, The Thing and The Terminator movies come to mind. Intersteller is pretty far behind those films imo.

On a side note, Sci Fi movies almost always incorporate more than one genre. If the criteria for sci-fi was movies that are pure Sci-Fi, there wouldn't be many contenders.

Where would people rate The Martian?

Let's all just be honest with ourselves. The greatest sci-fi movie of all time is 5th Element.
