Do these results seem right or is something holding me back? I've got less performance with a 590 (Stock) than a 7970 (OC)

Results that someone in the 7970 thread posted

I would say so as you do have tesselation set to extreme. You would improve your result if you could eek some more out of your CPU.

Highly doubt that as Extreme tessellation and Heaven in general is GPU bound. As already posted the clocks on the 7970 are set fairly high; thus, the performance difference.

The new upcoming nvidia chip will be competition for the 7970, not the 590.

    Well, the 590 is x2 580's.

While the 7970 is about as fast as a single 580. Heavily OC'ed it's 30% faster, tops, and in only a few games.

So obviously something is up here.

    Google shows other people reaching:

    rjkoneill (GTX590) - 2388

    Krazeswift (GTX590) - 2304

Well, the HD7970 is crazy fast for some things. Have you seen the 3dMark 11 benchies? Its almost stepping on the GTX590, also on Vantage. And thats stock GPU with 200w consumption right there.

Something is up with your numbers. Stock for stock a 7970 is anywhere from 20-40% faster than a GTX 580 and overclocked that grows to 50-60%. All this is dependent on title and resolution but by no means are the two chips equal.

    What a troll. :funny:
7970 is faster than anything and 1200 for GPU is not extreme OC. Exteme OC is 1500-1600:wanker:
    Deal with it :nerd:

Fixed that for ya. AMD are still working on the drivers and popular synthetics are the key to showing what Tahiti 'should' be able to do everywhere.

This is mine, and to make it fair, at default settings :)

I ran everything maxed and I got almost 1000 score, not bad for 2 generations behind cards :)

Exactly, the 580 is such an awesome card, it's amazing it still sets the pace of comparing a newer generation 7970, obviously not as fast, but still is regarded as the card to get :)

Hey, wait a minute, where did you get this image? That guy uses Catalyst 12.2 beta or an early version of 12.2 - 8.944.

The 7970 thread here on guru3d, ati cards section, don't remember who it was though.

I'm trying to find some 590 unigine comparisons and see if my numbers are off, though game performance seems as great as expected, not really any issues there.
