Default Drivers for Windoss 2000 - 06-25-2012, 16:48 | posts: 187 | Location: England

I run a multi boot setup with windows 7 64bit on my SSD and Windows XP and Windows 2000 on my 1TB Seagate Barracuda on separate partitions.

After a recent motherboard swap I've found myself without Ethernet drivers compatible with 2000. The ones that came with my motherboard just give me a blue screen.

I managed to install some older drivers on my old 750i chipset motherboard and windows 2000 was fine with them, only thing is that was several years ago and now I cant find them.

Surely if i can find drivers for the 750i there must be some available for the 780i.

I only use Windows 2000 occasionally for a few old games that I think run better on 2K than XP and for nostalgia reasons as well. Windows 2000 is my personal favourite OS of all time and though you can't do much with it these days it would be nice to at least be able to get on the internet with it!

So basically does anyone know of any Ethernet drivers for the 780i chipset compatible with Windows 2000? Or even a generic driver will do, just something that works!

Could always buy a cheap Intel network card.

They are recognized in nearly every OS.

I did see Nvidia NIC drivers on the Asus website for your StrikerII board. Do they not work?

Depending on the games the other thing you can do is virtualise Win2k. Can still do some 3D gaming under a VM.

You are pretty much stuck, NVIDIA doesn't write drivers for any OS pre Windows XP anymore.

If you are set on using Windows 2000 I suggest following Finch's suggestions. Either buy a NIC card that has Windows 2000 drivers, or if all you are using Windows 2000 for is to feel nostalgic and get on the internet, use a VM.

You can download Virtual Box for free online.

Yeah I've tried the drivers on the Asus website.

The frustrating thing is it was working on my other motherboard really well.

I like using windows 2000 for many reasons, mainly old games such as the original half-life and Giants Citizen Kubuto in particular, run much better, for some reason I can never get that game to run in resolutions above 800x600 when using XP but I can go all the way up to 1920x1080 in 2000.

I don't really need to use the internet in windows 2000, it's just a bit of a pain having to restart the computer and boot up XP or 7 just to check something on Google ect.

I think I'll just have to buy a network card.

It's probably a Marvell NIC, (you can check using AIDA64 under the Network tab) just go to stationdrivers and download the latest 2000/XP set.

Nvm here's the link dude.
