nm looks like 50" is only plasma so I have to have 47 (or 55 but that's WAY out of my price range - Which is AROUND £600-£700)

    I DO NOT NEED 3D.

I use my Sony KDL 40W5500U as my Monitor, and it is AWESOME however I just feel it is time for something BIGGER :D

Looking for something to replace it - just bigger really, NO LESS than 47 or I may a swell keep this one as its great.

    Was looking at this.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-T...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1343235807&sr=1-2

My TV runs at 60hz, the replacement must also. 60FPS 60hz is how I play.

Oh and also MUST BE 1080p

I have a Panny 50" plasma and it is astonishing in games,of course at the right distance. The feel is better than on my 27" 2560X1440,maybe it is console nostalgia;)

Mate I cannot roll with plasma as I use it as a monitor, it is a bad idea.

    I need LCD/LED I think.

    Which means 47inch

    Eh?

Why can Plasma panels *not* be used as a monitor?

You got better dynamic range, better pixel response, zero input lag, 178 degrees 'perfect' viewing angles.

For the size you are suggesting, the last thing you want is a non-plasma for monitor, surely?

I am pretty sure its a bad plan.

Not sure I follow this at all, I currently have a 40" 'non-plasma' and it is FANTASTIC as a PC monitor.

Imo, the current line of large screen samsung led-lcd screens are great, and have excellent viewing angles, there's a tad of screen bleed on mines with max brightness, but thats to be expected with all edgelit leds (I have mines at 12/20 to get around it, plenty bright), mines is about 2 years old so I imagine the new ones will be even better.

    Ah, a Highlander - STRONG.

I cannot seem to find a 47inch Samsung oddly.

    Samsung seem to like 46.

I had to draw the line somewhere as I wanted a 50inch, I will not go lower than 47 or it will be pointless getting rid of my 40inch.

    oh 52?

I will check that out, I cant afford 55 but ill check prices for the 52's

EDIT: looks like it's 51 but there is quite a large price jump, think I will stick to a 47inch LG/Panasonic or something like that.

Why do you feel this way?

The cheapest, nastiest, ugliest Plasma is better than the most expensive LCD television.

This, is undisputable; for the reasons already given above and more.

Power draw, main factor, and screen burn in.

Reasons enough not to get a plasma.

Thanks goodness somebody came to my rescue.

I can get a top brand 50inch Plasma for cheaper than a 46/47inch LCD/LED - what does this tell you.

    Thanks.

On current gen plasmas they do not draw that much more then a large LCD display. To boot the fact that most panels employ technology to prevent screen burn in. Oh did I mention that current gen plasmas have a display half-life of 100,000 hours? Thats until it's half as bright as it was when it was new. How long does an LED LCD last? Thats right around 100,000 hours...

Plasma is surperior in price, performance, and picture quality...

But I cannot use one as a PC monitor.

I sit there browsing the Internet for ages n ages, there is stationary stuff on my screen for HOURS.

    Just not practical AT ALL.

Samsung's d8000 series plasmas use 3x the power compared to the led line.

    As an example.

100000 hours is an averaged figure though, and I wouldn't think anyone would really be keeping a tv for 11 years at a time.
