I bought a 30in widescreen philips HDTV monitor a few weeks ago and I tried to hook my computer up to it via dvi to hdmi. I could see the picture but i could not read any of the text. So i hooked it up with the component cables that came with my vid card. I coud read the text at 1024x768 but it was not fit to the screen. I tried every other resolution but none of them would fit my screen exept for a few that were so high i could not even tell what icons were what everything was so small. I know there is a way for this to work. the tv is 480p and 1080i compatible. I got tired of messing with it but if you guys have any ideas or sugg i will try them. Thanx
What model# is the TV? What is the default resoluion? What are you setting the resolution to when using the DVI to HDMI? What refresh rate are you trying to use? Even though it's 1080i compatible, it probably doesn't achieve the true res and just downsamples. Once you tell me the model#, I can probably figure it out for ya.
philips 30pw8402/37. I took the hdmi cable back to the store. The component works better and I already have it so it saves me 60 bucks.
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894 I think that the name for what i am getting is virtual desktop. were i don't see everything but i can scroll up and see the rest of it. According to the link @ 480p the res should be set at 848x480. The only problem with that is that everything is so big it is like setting my monitor at 640x480. and the 1080i @1920x1080 everything is so small. which is better 1080i or 480p. I am going to hook up my pc and try that res for both. I am to tired to mess with it tonight though.
crap that link don't work right. type virtual desktop in the advanced search bar on the left side of the page and it will bring up the page i was refering to. It is the first choice of the results
You shoulda kept the HDMI cable. It's higher quality for 1. For 2, it's digital and the component cables are analog. 1080i is a higher resolution than 480p. Standard dvd's are 480. True HD content is 1080. Judging by the link to ATI, am I correct in assuming you have an ATI card? Anyway, from what I was looking at, it states that your only supported resolutions are the 480p and 1080i. So, with that, it looks like you're kinda limited. If you run at the higher res, you can always increase text and icon size. But if you wanna play games, that res might be a little high. If you've got one of the new vc's on the market, you'll be able to play at that res without AA and AF, depending on the game.
you can change the size of your icons and text but that wouldn't really help would it? i dont knowif your monitor will support that kind of option.
