Hey all, just put together my new computer and once I installed windows my memory was showing 8GB not 16GB and 8GB hardware reserved. Bios was showing 16GB but single channel not dual channel.

Just want to double make sure here about this: I put in 1 stick first and the computer wouldn't boot up, it would start shut off etc.... When I tried the other stick my computer booted up fine. I tried all the motherboard slots and same result for stick 1.

This concludes I got 1 DOA memory pretty much? I've read that a bent cpu pin can cause some memory reading issues or something and got my paranoid I don't want take off heatsink if the above test is good enough.

    Thanks for input.

Yeah, sounds like you need a replacement stick of RAM.

Yea does sound like a bad module, have also heard of things like 16GB installed 8GB usable when timings / clocks are too tight/high, and CPU OC can cause it too
