The new 690 is strictly a stock price PR move.

There is NO market for this card! Both financially and technically. The current 580s a can push any game at 60fps at 1080, with all options maxed. Most games even in a SINGLE card setup!

If you need more, SLI, it's cheaper! $1000 to $1200 is just asinine. What world to they live in?

It's also a paper launch; or as hard to get as the 680s. It makes total sense that this is strictly so they can live at the top line of the benchmark stats and keep perception and investors happy.

$1200 for what? Crysis 2 at 2550x1440 AND IN 3D? REALLY? Yeah, 100s of 1000s of users have been waiting for that. Oh wait, no they're not.

A single GTX580 is not capable of doing such thing. I don't think you did a whole research on business strategy did you?

There are plenty of fortunate people in this world that are happy to buy it.

Of course I won't be buying, the game devs have yet to give me a reason to need more HP.

It just makes me mad that the "press" is sucking up to NVIDIA. I haven't been able to find a SINGLE objective review of this launch. One, that it's another paper launch, two that it's a product no one really needs, and lastly that it's simply over-priced.

It's a good option for those that want to SLI the 680's, it produces less heat/noise and takes up less room. Also has minimal/no stutter that some dual gpu cards can have.
Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean others don't.

My rig runs at 1080p with anything I throw at it anywhere from 40 to 60fps solid. I have a single card system. As I said, if I wanted 60fps FLAT all the time, I could slap in another 580. Still end up spending less. But the thing is, like a lot of folks, 15 to 20fps is not worth $1200. Again, not mad at the product, more mad at all genital stroking reviews the press is giving NVIDIA again.

Right, but you don't even need to run two 680s. Run two 580s or even two 480s and you're going to save a ton of money and get nearly everything you'd want. Of course no website "review" wants to say this.

As I have said earlier, even a SINGLE 580 does 95% of the job.

    There is.
Just because you can't/won't afford it doesn't mean the market isn't there.
The next thing you say would probably there is no market for Intel's SB-E.

    And your point is?
We now also have Surround which usually comprises of three monitors.
Try playing Witcher 2 everything turned on with Ubersampling at triple display resolutions (5760x1080) with two 580s.

Except when it's not cheaper per say.
    Nvidia's official MSRP for 690 is still $999, and $499 for 680.
That $1200 price tag is retailers ripping people off.

'Paper launch' is when there is not product whatsoever, even to reviewers.
Please at least understand that concept well before mouthing off.

Triple display users are, or at least 120Hz monitor users.

Nice attempt at trolling, by the way.

True, but multi-monitor users can benefit from the extra horsepower, same with users that run extra AA settings as well as 3D users. It's not a card for everyone, which Nv already stated, but that doesn't make it a bad card for negative reviews.

Show me a website review that says, "The 690 is realistically only intended for surround gaming users...that single monitor gamers won't really see a cost benefit...especially 1080p users." You won't find one.

So even though the 690 is a niche' market product, it is being made out to be the second-coming.

Rich people get so by not spending money on dumb things. Don't simplify the situation down to purely financial when you have no idea the persons position with such things. ;)

I miss the days when heated, productive threads were called "discussions", not simply "trolling." Oh well.

Why would they, reviews are for enthusiasts. Also, Guru3d does state what you're looking for:
Nvidia pretty much make the same claim:
