in the very near future im looking at OCing my rig.
i have some concerns though about the cpu temps, i fitted everything about 10 days ago and have been running stock to make sure it's all stable and everything has settled in etc.
im running an i7 2700k on an Asus maximus v gene with an arctic cooling freezer pro 7 rev 2 cooler (not the best i know but for temp purposes until i get back to work, cant afford anything better at the moment). I have a Zalman z9plus case and all slots are fan filled (front & 2 side 120mm fans intake and rear and 2 top 120mm exhaust) the ambient air temp is 24c at the moment and i ran 4 hours of Prime under largefft to get max heat.
my concern is that i may have used too much paste, it was a pea sized amount in center of cpu as per arctics instructions and used arctic mx-2 paste.
core temps read core 0 & 2 @ 68c
core 1 & 3 @ 71c
thats at stock with turbo enabled so at 3.9ghz.
vcore is 1.232 at load.
is this all correct, i dont think it is looking at others temps that have been reported but i want to get you guys opinion before i go for the OC and / or rip the case apart to reseat the cpu cooler.
Thanks

I dont think id overclock anything at this point, those are pretty high temps. The thermal paste amount sounds fine, how hard did you tighten the CPU cooler? that can be an issue on some systems. How are you controlling that Cooler?

i tightened the cooler mount screws until the screwdriver wouldnt turn unless i really forced it, i can pick the mobo up fully loaded by the cooler, its on there solid. the cooler is software controlled i think, i can manually adjust the fan in fan expert, so i could have it run full rpm 24/7 but that test was done with full fan rpm

Are your fans all directed properly? CPU heatsink should blow to the rear of the case.Maybe your just not pushing enough air? Also just checked out your case, those Zalman fans may not be pushing enough CFM for what your doing And never pick up your Mobo by the CPU heatsink.I hope you are using some ESD protection while doing this build. If you walk around the room come back and touch the heatsink you could half the life of the processor ESD is a bad thing

those temps are a tiny bit high for that cooler but nothing dangerous.

LOL i didnt walk around the room with it, im not that much of a noob, i meant i can lift it clear of the table i was working on (yes with ESD protection), i thought the fan was a pull configuration so i have it oriented so the fan pulls cool air in across the heat sink which is then picked up by the rear case exhaust.
i do have the case on a desk but it has a foot's clearance to the wall behind.
i have all the case fan slots filled with 120mm fans so have 2 side intake (one blows virtually into cpu cooler fan), 1 front 120mm intake, 1 rear exhaust 120mm and 2 top exhaust 120mm.
case temp reads 27c and sensor is free floating between cpu heatsink and rear exhaust fan.
will try and upload pic if i can

this is the case shot, i didnt open the side panel cos they are a biotch to get back on again. but from the pic you should be able to see how the fans are set and general layout.

ok, your cpu cooler is positioned corectly, blowing into the back exhaust fan. I'm assuming that you didn't touch that back fan and it was installed when you got the case, correct? the 2 fans on the side panel, are they blowing air inside the case? They should be for a good setup. I know you say in the OP that they are intake just making sure. If so, then yeah, your temps are a bit high. I would try re-applying thermal paste and re-seating the cooler. It's not a bad cooler, but for a little bit more cash you can get better coolers out there, like my hyper 212+.
Anyway, try re-applying the paste and re-seating the cooler and post back.

thanks guys, thats what i was thinking as well. this cooler will make do for now, unfortunately i cant fit the cooler i really wanted which was a noctua NH-d14 big bastard. cant close the side panel and i wont go water, im an electronic engineer by trade, and although i know they are safe, it goes against every fibre of my being putting water and electronic circuits in close proximity. lol

ok, i have gone ahead and reseated the cooler. i had used too much TIM as it had leaked out of the side and back of the heatsink and took me a couple of hours of careful cleaning.
im going to give it 24 hours to bed in and then i will retest and post the results.

If you have keyboard with display, use something like Core Temp maybe...keeps Clock, multiplier and each cores temp/workload displayed nicely in all your games/programs if desired

Also, try setting the cpu fan to full speed instead of being controlled by the mobo. You should be able to find those settings in the BIOS.
