I'm going to be building my first PC soon. My main worry is bottlenecking my GFX card. I'll be getting a Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition @ 3.6Ghz and an EVGA GTX 560 SuperClocked 1Gb 256-bit card. Need I be worried?

Also the mobo I plan on getting is socket AM3+ and the X4 975 is AM3, are the two compatible?

Not really and yes. A bottleneck will only show up in a few select games, and only if you watch the fps counter religiously.

Compatible, but for that price I'd get i3 2120. Same price, higher performance, lower power consumption. Are you going to overclock that 975 BE?

AFAIK the pins are thinner on a PhenomII than on an FX so the AM3+ socket has a slightly larger pinhole diameter. The whole idea was to start selling Scorpion platform (iirc) AM3+ motherboards running Phenoms whilst AMD were trying to finish the FX processors. It wouldn't surprise me if a bunch of AM3+ owner still don't have an FX in their system.

No.

Grab a custom cooler and OC the CPU to 4Ghz, also raise the CPU/NB to >/= 2400mhz....

Btw, what games do you intend to run with the 560?

Pill Monster I've already have my sights on a Cooler Master Hyper 212, and I mainly play BF3. But I really hope that Solitaire will run

Yes. Avoid watching the FPS counter all the time. Just feel the game. I only watch the FPS counter when the game runs really slow. Thus, ive been enjoying lots of new titles using my x2 250 2-core procie.

Seriously? The i3 2120 @3.10 ghz with 2 cores beats a phenom II x4 975 @ 3.6 ghz with 4 cores? Please say it isnt so

i3 2120 actually runs at 3.3 GHz. But you can't compare CPUs by cores and clocks if they are of different architecture. i3 2120 has higher per-clock performance. This makes it faster than Phenom II X4 in many cases, especially gaming.

Agreed! In fact all of my client budget builds, including those used for gaming, incorporate this CPU.
