For £200 I can get a brand new GTX 970 or for an extra £50 I can get the 780 TI. I know the 780 TI is better though an older card. Would you suggest the newer 970 or the 780 TI? Thanks gurus.
Dont get 970 becouse 1070 is on its way and certainly dont get 780ti becouse Kepler cards are down the crapper. Save up and upgrade when new cards arrive.
Not much use picking a GPU now as new cards will be out soon. Save that 200/250 quid and most likely, any card you can buy for 250/300 will be faster than those two cards.
^ Hmmm, tempting. I hope the new cards arrive soon since I'm desperate to upgrade to something better than my 580...
You'll be blown away, performance will go with about 4 or 5 times that of a 580 if you stick to the 'mid range' cards like everything below Furies or '1070' / '1080'.
Very true... Lol! I get it, I'll be patient and get the next generation of gpu's once they have been released... As long as the price is kept under £300 for something decent then I'm highly interested to see what they have to offer when the time comes. I'd be more than happy having a video card that gives me similar performance to a 780 TI...
The 780Ti is smoother in some titles as this card is just plain beast. Better in almost all games released before 2015. The 970 is better with most newer titles, uses less power and runs cooler. You can't go wrong with either but I'd lean towards the 970. I have both. The 780Ti is paired to an i7 2600K and it's fantastic. (got the Ti used for $260, girlfriend's rig) There's almost no way you'll get a $200 Pascal variant that will run as good as either of those cards at Pascal release. For one thing, the 60 series midrange is usually priced closer to $250 at release and it's also usually released 6 months or so later. They'll be releasing the 1080/1070 type cards first. $350+ (USD)
That's why we advised him to wait and save up. That's 2-3 extra paycheck for him to get another 100$. Mid-high range cards are usually at 300-350$ price range.
I would advise waiting. If that's impossible it's always a good idea to go with the latest architecture.
Buy a USED 970. Me and many others are sick of sli scaling, and will dump a 970 or two when 1080 arrives. (well i'm keeping one for spare pc, but will sell the other one for maybe 150-200 usd, whatever i can get for it without being greedy).
I have a 780ti in my son's computer and just bought a 970 for my new one, I for one didn't mind blowing 300 for a couple months worth of gaming. He'll I like the card.
I'll probably wait but as you said, current pricing is very reasonable, whether it be used or new. If the new series are due to be released shortly or early summer I'll gladly wait... However, should they be released later in the year/winter or worse delayed, I'll consider getting one of the two very soon...
