Can anyone help? I have connected my ASUS STX card to an old technics amp. Listening though headphone there is loads of distortion. I'm not sure if I have connected the two correctly or if some settings need changing. Can anyone give me some instructions? Thanks

ASUS STX already has a prebuild amp and can drive most headphones up to 600 ohms.

Just connect your headphones directly to soundcard and see if signal good.

I was just testing the amp was working with the headphones. I intend to buy speakers but didn't want to until I know it will work. As I said I have all this distortion and don't want to spend the money if it's going to produce a rubbish sound.

Just guessing, but if that is amp > amp as stated above, try turning the ASUS right down and see if distortion improves, maybe overloading the technics ?

I don't think the rca outputs are amped but I maybe mistaken.

How did you connect your soundcard to amp? Did you use rca line out?

Left and right channel phono leads from the speaker outputs to the right and left inputs on the amp.
