Im looking to get either of those, Im looking for the one with a better performance. The 7870ghz edition is slightly cheaper than the 660ti. Any help would appreciated
what resolution do you game at 660ti is awsome at 1080p and in SLi it is faster than a GTX680 sorry i have no knowledge of 7870 but in reviews 660ti performance is in between 7870 and 7950
amd vs nvidia cards questions will be best answered in the general hardware section. between those 2 I would probably go for the hd 7870. it's chaper, and you get a cracking game bundle. performs about the same, overclocks good too.
At stock, the 660 Ti will probably beat a 7870. Hell some games the 660 Ti can catch up/beat 7950s. Overclocking the 7870 will put it ahead as the 660 Ti has the Boost thing Nvidia put in the 6xx's. Price wise, for the UK at least, thr 660 Ti is a little more expensive. My personal pick would be the 7870 as you get Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite with it for free. You should do some research and get Benchmark results to compare them, what is more important is which card is better in the games YOU want to play. Either way your getting a good card
I'm sorry but a 660Ti will never touch a 7950. If it does, there is/was a problem with the test being done. http://www.hwcompare.com/13144/geforce-gtx-660-ti-vs-radeon-hd-7950-3gb/ 660Ti has a very small lead in texel rate, but that will not make it faster overall. 7950 will also OC much farther than a 660Ti will ever hope of. Now if we were talking about a GTX 670 vs a 7950, well that would be a different story. Blows would exchange left and right depending on the game.
Only heavily Nvidia optimized titles sure. But that is to be expected. Look at the problems nvidia is having with TR being AMD optimized. They can try to blame it on devs not releasing code, but if people think Nvidia doesn't do the same to AMD they are mistaken.
660 Ti is as fast as a standard 7950. OP, get either GTX 660 Ti or HD 7870 XT. 7870 XT is based on Tahiti GPU and performs within a few percent of 660 Ti/7950, but is somewhat cheaper. Best price/performance ratio.
No, look at hardware compare. New drivers also falsify this statement. Review sites need to use latest drivers and people not read age old articles.
What about hardware? Sure, 7950 looks great on paper with that 384-bit 3GB memory, for example. But you can't compare completely different hardware by specs. It looks as if AMD is aiming at hardware noobs who measure performance by looking at specs... Using latest drivers 660 Ti is as fast as standard 7950. But by standard I mean non-Boost. 7950 with Boost is faster. TPU makes some comprehensive reviews http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_650_Ti_SSC/27.html
overclocked 7950 is faster than an overclocked gtx 670. so I don't know what you mean by saying AMD is aiming at hardware noobs. if anything, they offer better value for money atm.
What about HW Compare? All that site shows is theoretical GPU performance based on memory bandwidth & texture fill rate. Not really proof of anything.... http://www.hwcompare.com/6326/radeon-hd-6950-2gb-vs-radeon-hd-6970/ Like the others said a 660Ti is equal to stock 7950 in more than a few games. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/550?vs=647 However when the 7950 is overclocked it beats them all; 660Ti/670/680....
single card, buy whatever suits you, if you have any aspirations in going multi gpu, give this a read dated March 13, 2013 http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...166-nvidia-gtx-titan-vs-sli-crossfire-15.html a better section for this thread would be general hardware as most nvidia users post in that section. that way you would get a more balanced response
What does that have to do with this thread? The OP asks which mid-range card to get and you recommend they spend better part of a grand?
