It depends,i play skyrin with all the hd mods and all the highest visual tweaks from STEP overhaul mod and i do mean all of the hd mods and not just some of them,i run 4x aa at 1200p and i get a constant 60 fps,but my gpu ram is maxed out while playing this game with all the mods. Its the only game that i find uses all the gpu memory any other game i find 2gb is plenty. Op i would just wait for daddy keplar gk 110 and be done with gk 104.

I have 3 HD mods installed and i'm using over 2GB of Vram at any given time. SO 4GB will definitely come in handy when adding a lot of mods.

Really, anything beyond SLI is a waste of money.

Just get a pair of GTX 670's 4GB in SLI, you should be able to find them for a little more than a GTX 680 2GB.

And if you ever want to sell them a 4GB Model will be easier.

Lol that's well over the top unless your benching or running 4 monitors and wanting to max everything.

Isn't 2X680 enough?

My 2X580 gpu's give me over 100 fps in EVERY game with everything to the max apart from Crysis which gives me around 77 fps...

@RoadKillNL

There's a difference between what amount of VRAM is used, and how much of that is necessary not to stutter and fall off the performance cliff.

Game will precache/not release data, whether you need it soon or not.
And why not, when there's plenty of VRAM.
Get it?

Excuse my ignorance, but is MSI Afterburner the only available application for seeing how much VRAM is being used in real-time, and is possible to run it on non-MSI cards?

Wasn't able to OC my 580 with it. Even if i increased it with 5 MHz every single game crashed. While with nVidia System Tools i could OC without any crashes.

Strange thing is that MSI Afterburner works fine with my 680.

I run skyrim at 2560x1440 with 4xSSAA and the Skyrim HD textures (4096x4096) with heavily tweaked ENB and FXAA injector, and I don't see my gpu using more than ~1.4gb outdoors, or~1.8gb indoors. The only time I've seen Skyrim using more vram than 2gb is when using stupid high shadow resolutions.

Skyrim aside, there should be no issue, even with BF3. For kicks and giggles, I've had BF3 run at 3200x1800 on the ultra preset, and it was not exceeding 1.7gb. Needless to say, a 2gb card will work fine for a ways to come. If you mod Skyrim, you just have to pay attention to -how- you mod it (same holds true with modding any other game). But you can always get a 4gb model if you're unsure, but at the moment, there's no real need.

I guess it's your luck. I've been using MSI Afterurner for years & I've yet to come across any problems with it.

I've used nVidia system tools. Whilst it's ok the overclock settings I made kept going to defaults. This was on a laptop gpu which is maybe why this problem occured.

As of now MSI Afterburner is allowing me to overclock my GTX 580's and one 580 is 3Gb in Vram whilst the other is 1.5Gb.

You can also use evga precision which i actually prefer over afterburner.

I dunno how i manage it, but i broke my own record again yesterday with 2746 MB VRam.

I play at 1680x1050 with 4xMSAA + FXAA and 110 Mods and 4K Textures. I do run 4K Shadows tho. But no ENB or FXAA Injector.
