I am seeing huge price drop for I7-6850k. They can be had for 330-350$ new, add 20% off pre-school eBay coupon that can give you upto 50$ off and you are looking at 290$ for an i7-6850k.

290$ really? For 6850k? lol. I know things have changed for intel but 6850k isn’t a 290$ chip (I believe that, or is it?) Do you guys think I should upgrade my 5820 to this?
I know threadripper is really juicy but I don’t feel like spending 1500$ on board combo as of yet.

What do you guys suggest? Is it a sidegrade?

Save your money. Even if you can overclock a 6850k a bit more than your 5820k you'll gain very little. From a gaming point of view upgrade your graphics card instead, if you feel the need to spend some cash :)

    Do you need it?
What's the point of upgrading if it will only bring 10%

I seriously don't need it lol, it's just, you know ...
it's been a while since I played with a new hardware lol.
    and now it's that cheap.

You can't OC higher your 5820K ? You will gain nothing with the 6850K because of poor OC potential. Even my 6800K is a binned one to 4.4Ghz and his limit is 4.6Ghz and is not stable.

I couldn't go higher than 4.4ghz on my chip. I tried different things for a month and then accepted the fact lol.

In recent events, I got charged again and tried OC one more time. bloody hell, i cant get ahead of 4.4 GHz mark, whatever combination I use lol. I even tried 1.45v on vcore, just to check.

As others have said, this sounds like a sidegrade. It's not worth your money, especially if you don't need it.

I know where you are coming from mate. Once the upgrade bug bites it never goes away. Go big or stay at home and ride out the cold sweats, :>).

not much of an upgrade, better keep that money for a graphic card indeed from a gaming standpoint.

It is very hard to control those hardware urges tho i feel u mate

If you feel like throwing money at Intel for virtually nothing in return, yeah, absolutely. Go for it.

Only a 5960x or 6900k would be a ok upgrade, but both are ~800-1000$, better get a custom 1080ti and at least aio h2o e.g. minimum corsair H90 to oc more

Btw, Haswell has a lot of punch, some underestimate it too much.. and it's not all in cpuv:nerd:,
    Svid or vccin
    Vccsa or cpu system agent
    Cache or ring voltage

    Llc
    powerphase voltage or percentage

Are all crucial by higher Oc, auto is not always ideal.

Only do it if you're going high end SLI for 16x16 lanes

thanks for the input :) I upgraded to H110 like 6 months ago, I forgot to update my stats here lol.

I have system agent at 1.02 but rest are on auto. I will tinker with them.
    overall it's a pretty cool CPU, at 4.4ghz I don't break 75c in prime95 even after 2+ hrs.

oh man :( thats what I think. I feel like I am hardlocked at 4.4 Ghz lol.
I will try above said volts settings and see what i get.
