    Winrar 4.0

First beta is out with a variety of changes and also improves speed a bit for decompression.
(3.93 had quite a few before the final release but changes between later ones were rather minor from what I remember.)

7-zip is the way to go, open source FTW!

    Oh nice.

This means I can Unrar to directory above without going into the program. That would be nice.

Winrar rules as an all-in-one utility, incl. ISO and everything else.

I found out the relative paths wasn't what I was hoping for.

All I want is a shell extension which extras the current files to the above directory. *Sigh*

    Ah well.

Haven't really compared 7-zip to Winrar but I like the interface though I understand 7-zip handles compression a bit better with it's own algorithm.
(Which Winrar can only extract, though RAR is often OK but there have been exceptions.)

Anyway beta 2 is now available.

WinZip is still alive and kicking, and it's in version 17.x.

What was it did you ask again about WinRAR? :p

    Lol seriously?

But, sticking to topic, the RAR format does offer a more robust means for damaged file recovery compared to ZIP or 7Z.
Not that most people'd care anyway; they simply just can't change habits that easily. =b
The new RAR5 format is interesting, though.

lol, if people wanna fill their PCs with lots of SW, their choice.
I use 7-zip, handles all my archives without problems.

    How's the new RAR5 format?
Interested in seeing some benchmarks for it.

Is there any comparison between WinRAR and 7-zip. I always use 7-Zip because it is open source, small and really gets the job done quite well.
