I "upgrade" quite a bit from May 2013 up until Thursday (10/23/14)

    3770k>4770k>4790k>4670k>5820k
    250>300>320>150>320

Same for me. Except I think I paid $500. Was the fastest processor I could put on that speedy 533mhz FSB

3960x was my most expensive cpu.
It has been going for a few years now at full bore so I think it was a worthwhile investment.

I'd say the current i7 950 was the most expensive. Before that it's been a mere Core2Quad, before that Athlon, ... but I guess my most expensive will soon be the 5930K ;)

999.99 for an i7-980x 4 years ago when it was released, Still rockin the same PC. Was money well spent as even 4 years later my PC still runs incredibly fast and the only thing I need upgraded is the GPU. The i7-980x is so good I am not rebuilding the entire PC until Skylake-E. So even though it was 1000 dollars I will get over 6 years of non cpu bottlenecked performance from it. So with 6.5 years of use from it its like i only spent 150/year on my cpu not so bad when u look at it like that

i really dont know what to say, but i do plan on getting a GTX760 or a redeon 270x and that should allow me to game on full res for a year or so.

It was the mad note when i bought it. Still am very happy with it. Will wait for zen, and then see what options i have to upgrading :nerd:

just messin with ya buddy. If you are lookin on an upgrade wait for the gtx 960 it should be like 250 and will be a lot better than spending 200 on the gtx 760

Its the Intel Core i5 4590 (now) @ 13500 INR.

i know what you mean. Am not in any rush anyway. Might even hold out for the radeon r300. I just do the occasional light gaming anyway :nerd:

Well I don't want to write off the r 300 series but amd has to do some serious engineering to not only get the performance higher but massively reduce power consumption to get on equal footing with nvidia. I have a suspicious feeling that the incredible heat and power levels will continue and the performance will only be a bit ahead of nvidia and then nvidia will release the gm210 chip and once again beat amd on power consumption and performance. I could be wrong but nvidia is in a very strong position and has a lot of power left to work with for their big gm210 chip so whatever amd has planned after the GCN architecture it has to be a huge leap from what they currently have to close this gap and i'm skeptical they can do it.

That could be true, but i will just have to d a fair bit of digging around with both brands to see which is best on offer.

Anyway, lets not his thread into a GPU discussion but i appreciate the input! :nerd:

One of my biggest ever blunders in PC hardware was...

Spending £750 on an AMD FX-55 chip only to then bend and break off around 8 pins as it was not compatible with my motherboard! (yes I was pretty newbie at the time).

I literally destroyed £750 worth of hardware in about two minutes!

Only to then have it rubbed in my face as the FX-60 chip was released two weeks later! :(

The other expensive piece of hardware was a the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93GHz CPU. It was the flagship of the conroes and I actually did my research this time. Making sure my motherboard supported the chip. I have since been on Intel and never been back to an AMD CPU. The Core 2 Extreme X6800 cost me £745 brand new it had only been out a week before.

Great chip though, I clocked it to 3.4GHz and it ripped through everything I had at the time, and it was awesome coupled with my 8800GTX Ultra :)

... Until Crysis was released and we all started crying lol :p

Can't really say as I can't remember. Always went for best bang for buck CPU's such as a Q6600 or 2600K. Before that I had a X2 4200+ AMD I think.

I always buy with the assumption that I'm going to OC them.
