Hello forum, I've been saving for quite a while now and I don't know what to do. I currently have a pretty decent rig but I want to upgrade something. First thing that crossed my mind was the video card(s) however some other people had said to me that I should change my CPU. I need help from you guys to decide what is best. My specs are: Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 latest BIOS Processor: AMD FX 8150 Black Edition 8-core OC @ 4.2 Ghz Memory: Kingston Hyper-X KHX16009D3B1 8 GB (2x4GB) @1600 Video: X2 EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked 2GB (SLI) PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro 1000W 80 Plus Bronze Cooling: Corsair H100i Case: Cooler Master Haf-X Drives: Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB (Boot) ADATA XPG SX900 128GB SSD (Games) Seagate 1Tb (Storage) WD Green 1Tb (Storage) WD Mybook 1Tb (Storage) ################################################### Now, I've been told that my CPU (Bulldozer) is not letting my GPUs work well and it's bottlenecking them and that I should change it for an Intel (Core i5 or i7) CPU. So in order to change CPU I will need to change my motherboard and reinstall Windows for all I know. The other option is to sell both video cards and upgrade to a single GTX 780. What is my best option? CPU and Motherboard or GPU? Thank you in advance.
I would maybe throw in a 8320 and oc it to 4.5 or so. that would be much better than the 8150. Other than that, you can always go with a 4770k, depends on how much you want to spend.
Yeah I think swap out the cpu for something else, maybe a haswell or if you wanna go the cheap route a 8320 and oc the hell out of it.
I have around $500 USD, so I'm torn. I do have to spend on a core i5 and a good motherboard. But what I want is good video quality in my games like Battlefiled 4 and Assassins Creed Black Flag.
If you guys think that just changing the CPU for another AMD will help I will change it. But a lot of people is telling me that I should switch to Intel. No AMD is good for extreme gaming.
Your GTX 660 SLI will already handle those games you mentioned, there's no problem there. Only thing left is CPU upgrade + new mobo. Get a Z87 and 4770k (or 4670k). But if you get 4770k you'll be set. Will provide you the most gaming performance.
One of the things I love is my MoBo, the Dolby audio and the way is set up the mobo goes perfectly with my case and cable management. What mobo would you guys recommend?
Some ASUS/Gigabyte/ASRock Z87 mobo. I'd personally recommend a Gigabyte mobo though. But whatever is fine. This is a good board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128592 Or if you wanna save up a bit then, this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128591 + a 4770k, is exactly 500$. +If you sell your current stuff you get a good amount offset.
Yes I agree with most on here pick up a decent Z87 motherboard and a 4770K and watch those 660's come alive.
Ok, now the big decision will be a good MoBo. And I don't know if will have the money for a 4770K and a good mobo like an Asus Formula or a Nice Gigabyte which I like a lot
Boards like Formula and stuff like are too expensive (and don't give you much for the added price, basically they're just premium stuff), get something that is good but still has a good price, like one of the ones I listed, GA-Z87X-D3H for example. Very solid board. Or whatever ASUS/ASRock equivalent.
Let me see if I can get my hands on those boards because I'm not from US and Newegg or any other big companies do not deliver to my country. We do have good computer stores but not all models are available.
Can you post your store links? Asus Hero4 is not too expensive and a good mobo too or Asus z87-pro or MSI Gaming z87 G45/G65
