I have a gateway 7422GX, which hasn't let me down yet. I'll be looking into a faster hard drive eventually and maybe more ram but what I'm really interested in is the bios.

It has a gateway 7400 series mobo running Phoenix bios version NS.00.02 dated back to 10/16/04.

I've been looking around for them but have had a tough time finding one. The phoenix website is a joke considering they're mainly into retail. Any hacked ones around or just updates?

Yeah, I've scoured google to the bone. Seems the only solutions I've come across are to buy a new ROM chip and replace the current, of have it sent back for some repair to have Gateway unlock the bios to update it.

I'm messing with A64 tweaker trying to adjust some ram settings. Looks like gateway put in the worst, cheapest ram available as I'm having no luck adjusting any settings at all.

yea, I doubt you will get very far on a gateway, companies like cheap parts and charge double for them.
