Hi everyone. I want to change my 22'' tft panel to more large. Now I have 77hz (custom) at standard resolution 1680x1050 over DVI cable. Monitor works well, specs allows to change it. Question. Can I set custom refresh rate via HDMI or DP cable connection ? Sorry for my english. )
Yes. But the monitor might not accept them. Some monitors can accept higher refresh rates, some don't, and some do accept them but will not display all frames (you get frame skipping and thus stutter.) Unfortunately, it's not possible to know in advance if a monitor will work or not, unless you find someone who already has the monitor and can confirm. So it might be best to buy a monitor that explicitly supports the higher refresh.
RealNC, big thanks for answer. What about ability of connection type ? Is DP more flexible for custom refresh rate in difference of HDMI ?
Erm yes as it can take higher pixel clock compaired to HDMI`s low clock but if your using hdmi 2.0 then they to have high pixel clock
It depends on the sink device's (display's) max pixel clock. Software like MonInfo can show this noted by the vertical refresh range in hertz. But also dependant on the display engine accepting the higher frames or throwing them away/stuttering (which can be different on a TV vs a monitor), especially if you are passing through an HDMI repeater like an AV receiver. Usually manufacturers involving HDMI use only the bare minimum TDMS/pixel clock needed for its native display resolution if its a 60hz display (can guess for cost reasons). 165mhz is what you might see for a generic 1080p 60hz display, 225,340, for higher end 120hz+ display or 600mhz with HDMI 2.0 (which is required for 4k @ 60hz).
