Hi i wondering if anyone could help me out, I do a lot 3D, animation and video editing, plus i like game now and again. I was thinking to get a pretty powerful Origin PC, but i have decided on getting a custom built PC with a budget of £1600 i don't really want to go to far off this mark.

I want it to be future proof and upgradable to upto 3 years, this is a spec i got from www .pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-2011-extreme

Could i get a better custom built PC, for around that price or less?

    Not bad for starters, although:
RAM - Go for quad channel (4 x 4 GB), possibly a bit faster than that.
PSU - Get something better than that, a bit of overhead is good to have.
HDD - You can get bigger for not much more expensive.
CPU Cooler - Get something better, even if you don't wanna overclock, it'll be a darn sight quieter than the crappy stock one.
OS - Windows 7 is far better than Windows 8.1

If you're thinking of buying prebuilt, don't cos you can get a lot better doing it yourself and it's really not difficult. THat platform and CPU are good for what you do I think. See what other folks have to say, too.

Don't agree with that statement but agree on power supply and cooler even perhaps one of the AIO coolers.I would probably go one of the Samsung ssds Evo or Pro.

Why not wait 3-4 extra months and get a Haswell-E system with X99 chipset and DDR4? Since you're aiming for future proof.

X79 is dead, there won't be any cpu upgrades anymore, for example by HSW-E you could buy a 6core (12threads) and later upgrade to 8core (16threads).

^ this. I cringe a little bit when I see the new build threads right now. It's really just a good time to wait for the new stuff to come out. We're entering a whole new generation.

My home PC has been neglected 5 years, I understand the waiting strategy 4 extra months it wouldn't be a bad idea, but being as i'm now freelancing, as apposed to permanent work where i'd be in a studio using highend PC workstations.

I don't have the luxury of waiting 4 months unfortunately :(

Can you potentially buy some used things and then dump them after the new stuff comes out? Maybe buy a used mobo, a 3770k or 2600k and some ddr3 ram? It should be pretty fast, and those products have already done a good amount of devaluing.

I feel like some people dump rigs on craiglist for decent prices. I wouldn't know since I don't look much, but I'd bet it's possible.

Agree, spending all that uber cash seems like a big waste now..

Heck even 4770K would be a better choice, you could stick in Haswell refresh and by the looks of it Broadwell too..

And Haswell is very fast in openGL /CAD work, even "only" as 8 threaded cpu, way faster then 4930K. One good example Cinebench15 gpu part I get ~ 170fps, 1x stronger gpu with idk 3930 or 4930K gets ~ 110fps..
Check guru3d cinebench15 thread to see the bigger picture, idk if those are the exact numbers, but that big gap is here.
