    Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if I bought 2 x 1080, would this be enough to game at 4K -60FPS?

    My current system is x5690 @ 4.4ghz, 24gb ddr3 1600mhz corsair ram

If not should I wait for 1080ti.

    THanks for your comments,

    Nate

It might, wait until the reviews is my advice. You'll most likely also want to upgrade that mobo and CPU. It's great tech but it's starting to get old.

1080Ti might be the better option but reviews will tell.

didn't really want to upgrade MB and CPU as 6 core is enough for a while. Just wondering whether or not I should get 2 x or 3 x 1080 or 2 x 1080 ti.

I don't have SLI and I might be wrong but it seems like SLI support in games is becoming worse and worse, given that trajectory, I wouldn't go SLI.

Fewer is better as long as your min fps demands are met.

I agree. I used to have 970SLI and it worked pretty well but then started to get worse and worse. Had 980Ti SLI too but that was just a waste of money.

your Xeon 5690 @4.4ghz is just fine.

gtx 1080 sli is also fine for 4k, as long as the game is scaling fine with sli.

On higher resolutions 6-core is really going to shine in upcoming future games.

Of course it will, and it will cost you minimum 1200$ if you wanna do that in june 2016.

By February/March 2017 almost one year away you might bet the 'big pascal' 1080Ti for 700/750$ that will be roughly be 2x980-Ti in raw performance, and could handle 4k on his own.

But by the time, game might have added Uber settings which will make them even harder to run 4K.

But you'll have to wait again and again, it never ends.

It's your money, your call !

New HB SLI bridge only supports 2 way SLI on 1080 cards.

You should do what you want but don't expect miracles. Many agree that SLI support from developers and nVidia is getting worse.

Maybe it will get better in the future? You can only hope. At least for those games that have great scaling you'll get your money's worth.

I just got my 4K tv/monitor (43") and holy crap! What a jump in resolution! (I was using 42" 1080p). Just reading text on websites like guru3d is amazingly clear.

It's looking like the GTX1080 is going to give twice the FPS that I get with my 970, which was also nearly twice as fast as my GTX760. with 4x the pixels, I'm thinking the 1080 at 4K is going to be similar (framerate-wise) to my GTX760 in 1080p. Perhaps a little less.

I'll probably have to run newer titles at 1440p. A single 1080 just isn't going to cut it and I'm not ready to try SLI yet.

Meanwhile (probably for a few weeks), I'm revisiting older titles that sure look great in 4K and actually run great too.

Tri sli never really scaled all that well when sli was working alright if you could do that with the 1080s that is.
