I still didnt buy my cpu because i was trying to get more money for the 980 gtx or 980ti...

So i have a GREAT DEAL for either one of these CPU:

    I5 4670 at 3.4ghz or I7 4770S at 3.1 GHz

I will mostly PC gaming but i will also play pcsx2 ( a single thread ps2 emulator.)
So i ask myself if im better with a 3.4ghz versus 3.1ghz.
i know i5 dont have hypertread...

I look at passmark benchmark... do i dreaming the 4770S beat 4670 in single thread even at 3.1ghz vs 3.4ghz ! is it really possible ? ( I5-4670 at 3.4ghz, CPU Mark 7402, Single Thread rating 2162 VS i7-4770s at 3.1ghz, CPU MARK 9358, Single Thread rating 2177 )

if yes would the 4770S a better performer for PCSX2 in single thread mode ?

    Thanks for answer.

I need your recommendation guru memeber, i really dont know which one buy.
i dont do any 3D programmation. i like to use several applications at same time though... like imgburn, utorrent, web browsing, downloading, winrar for compress files...

    Thanks for help

Personally I'd go with a 4670K and enjoy the overclocking rather than getting a Low-Power version of an I7. The 4770S is a low power version of the regular 4770. 300Mhz slower, different Turbo clocks and a lower TDP.

If you really want an I7, look for a regular power version. Anything with S or T at the end is a Low Power or Ultra-Low power processor.

    Hmm..

The 4670 is not the K.

I save more 100$ if i choice one of these two CPU because its a shop friend deal , because he has overstock of these.

Do you still suggest me the 4670 ( not k) over the 4770S ?
i suppose i can overclock the 2 cpu in FSB with a asus h97 board.

Overclocking with the BCLK (base clock) is very very hard with these CPU's. You would be very lucky to achieve 105MHz base clock and not have issues. For overclocking these CPU's it is much easier to just get the K version and overclock with the multiplier and leave the BCLK at stock (100MHz).

Since overclocking is not an option and the price is similar, the i7 is the clear choice. Gaming should be slightly better on the i7 (both CPUs would be fine for gaming) but stuff like opening/creating zipfiles or encoding (etc), it will be much faster with the 4770S. For games that utilize hyper-threading you get 8 cores instead of 4.

My experience: I loved my 4670K when I had it (handed down to kid) but my hyper-threaded 4790K just kills it in heavy tasks, let alone the nice bump I got in gaming. Granted the speed is higher than the 4770S but I'm referring to the hyper-threading advantage. (Both my CPU's are used at stock speeds)

HT isnt going to help him in gaming but higher frequency will. When 4670 becomes absolete 4770 will be to, both are quad cores CPU's after all.

Extra 100$ is better is better spent on SSD or something.

Is it still the case that you can run all cores on the high turbo boost frequency if using the right motherboard? It would be around 3.9/4.0 GHz if you can. If you can use a ~102-103 FSB (any higher is unlikely, and even 103 is pushing it), it would be 4.1 GHz.

I read everywhere that HT is not helping in gaming. In Project cars it seems to affect the game badly with core packed...

I think i will go with I5 4670, but im still not sure yet, the single thread performance is important to me, i will play a lot of pcsx2. i know compress files will be longer, but thats not much important to me. im not encoding video much..

Thanks for help dont hesitate to tell me your opinion, i will decide the july 20 , when all my money will be ready for buy my whole system.

OP said he was getting a great deal on either of these CPUs which I assume means cheap, IE, not $100 more. He never specified, he just said he saves "$100 more if he chooses one of these CPUs". BUt if the price is nearly the same, the i7 is the way to go, no doubt about it.

I'm not sure what the OP is talking about with hyper-threading causing worse performance. I've run both a 4670K and now a 4790K. The i7 was a noticeable increase for gaming, easily 15-20% better (FPS) in all cases, especially minimum framerates. It totally rapes the i5 with other tasks.

So again, if the price is quite similar and there is no overclocking with either CPU, why not get the i7?

I dont think price is similiar. i7's are always more expensive. In 95% games HT is just hanging there, while even slightly higher frequency makes a difference. He'll need faster singlethreaded performance.

i5 6600k 4thread 4core is on the way, it would probably beat any last gen i7 in gaming. So much for HT helping, higher ipc and higher core clock is what matters.

I have a i5 4690k on a h97 board, I can get a i7-4790 basically as a straight swap. Running win 10 now and a 7950 card. Is it worth doing the cpu swap. Also looking at replacing the 7950 with a r9 380 4gb card.
