Hi guys, I did my regular check for FX-7600p and see what I have found: Intel Core i7-4600M (37W) @ 2.89 GHz vs FX-7600p (35W) @ 2.7 GHz: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/407956?baseline=651668 Intel Core i7-4558U (28W) @ 2.80 GHz vs FX-7600p (35W) @ 2.7 GHz: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/626669?baseline=651668 For those who do not want to open links: 28W Intel Core i7-4558U ~ 1.7B Trans. count ~ 430$ ~ Iris 5100 IGP (35% of die) 35W AMD FX-7600p ~ 2.41B Trans. count ~ Price unknown ~ 512 cores GCN 2.0 (47% of die) 37W Intel Core i7-4600M ~ 0.96B Trans. count ~ 350$ ~ HD 4600 IGP (20% of die) CPU perf: 28W Intel Core i7-4558U ~ Single Thread: 3071 ~ Multi Thr.: 6276 35W AMD FX-7600p ~ Single Thread: 2012 ~ Multi Thr.: 5611 37W Intel Core i7-4600M ~ Single Thread: 3005 ~ Multi Thr.: 6458 Why I picked these CPUs for comparison? - Because i7-4600M draws about same power in total (unfortunatelly not much competition in gaming department) - Because Core i7-4558U CPU part draws about same power as FX-7600p and it's IGP should be quite competitive too FX-7600p is basically desktop a10-7850k binned and clocked to stay in 35W range. http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/641421?baseline=651668 Difference is not that big, isn't it? If you happen to look in geekbench for OC of a10-7850k you will find interesting results. You can gain same performance boost from OC+slow memory or from base clock+fast memory. So I hope FX-7600p will be equipped with fastest memories available to gain performance without bringing its 35W to sky. Now I wonder what products will actually use FX-7600p which is competitive. As I see it fit for small factor gaming netbook. i7-4558U is in 13.3" netbook with nice but not unusual parameters like 256GB ssd, 8GB 1600MHz memory and costs 2500$ here. Do you think AMD can fit FX-7600p which should be similar/better for gaming purpose in sub 1000$ 13.3" netbook? Well, I do. I just hope for 1600x900/1680x1050 screen and not 1366x768.
FX-7600p finally surfaced: ASUS X550ZE - 15.6" - dual graphics: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X550ZE/specifications/ MSI has few GX60-5CD/GX70-5CD (15.6"/17.3") for some time posted, have not seen them on sale here. Hope someone will just make smaller netbook without dGPU now. They are for sure missing window of opportunity and soon people will start to wait for next generation of APUs to come.
Yes I would definitely pay a grand when a gtx 860m paired with an i5 haswell hyper threaded CPU sells for about the same.
